I'm just wondering about the summer. Do we look to buy strikers to replace Leon Best, Shola and Ranger or to play along side them?

Personally, I think Leon Best has proved his worth so far and can only improve. I think it would be disrespectful to look to replace him although a better striker would be welcomed. I think with Shola, Best and Ranger (As much as I love Lovenkrands, I don't think he'll be around for another season if we bring someone else in) we would only need two more strikers at the most (if these keep fit)

As much as we'd like to see brilliant strikers brought into the club and change the face of our strike force, I can't see it happening. Strengthening the strike-force is a must but replacing them all for bigger and better strikers I very much doubt.

 

I think we need a new striker, and then keep who we've got as back up.

 

We need one or two more, and use Best with them or as cover, same for Shola. Let Ranger develop, go on loan if necesary and it's Lover's last year so let it run out, one last year.

 

We need a striker but I wouldn't rule Best and Ameobi out completly.

 

I wouldn't say no to sending Ranger out on Loan, depending if we can get people in.

 

I'd get at least one striker in, possibly two, to play alongside of Best if possible. Or Best as first choice back up, with Shola and Lover as back up too. Ranger out on loan to get him some first team football for a bit.

 

Get rid of Ameobi, send Ranger out on loan, keep Best and Lovenkrands. Ameob i has played more games than Lovenkrands and score only 2 more. Lovenkrands offers pace, he has good ball control, his passing and ability to link up with players is good. Ameobi doesn't like up with players well at all, and all he is, is a target man that will score 5/6 goals a season. He's not worth keeping at all.

Keep Best as he's our best striker, Lovenkrands is a hard worker and works better with the team. Ameobi has to go, he's had too much time.

 

Couldn't disagree with this any more. Ameobi holds the ball up well and links up a lot better than Lovenkrands, who goes missing for 85 minutes of a match. Not to mention he's our most experienced striker and arguably most loyal player.

 

Also you cant base anything on goals per game, how often has shola come on for 10 minutes and therefore registered an appearance? And Lover was in the SPL. No way are their records comparable.

 

Lovenkrands is a smart player, making runs and getting into good positions whereas Shola is big and powerful. Two different players...

 

Tit - Ameobi wouldn't go anyway.

 

Two new strikers, Ameobi and Best as backup, send Ranger out on loan to a Championship side, sell Xisco and Lovenkrands (though I do like him).

We'd have 4 good quality strikers (I think Best has proven himself worthy of a squad place) and the academy kids like Airey, Ameobi and Zamblera (if Roma don't sign him) to cover injuries.

 

Best - keep him I think he's coming on leaps and bounds and is worthy of a place in the squad
Ameobi - Love his loyalty but wouldn't be surprised if he was sold. Personally I would get rid, he goes missing in too many games for my liking.
Lovenkrands - Like the guy and we need his pace. If we can find a pacy striker then let him go as well. Otherwise keep.
Ranger - One for the future keep him.

What do we need? I think we should be looking to have 5 strikers in the squad. Therefore one quality signing to make 5 and additional like for like (or better if we can get them) replacements if we lose Ameobi or Loverlover.

Ameobi holds the ball up well? I must have been watching a different player for the last 10 years, always has been a yard short of the game and too often fails to anticipate play and get into a position that Shearer would naturally take up and still keeps getting caught offside. Pops up now and again and actually plays but is past his sell by date and part of the clubs history rather than its future, time for him to go build his bank balance in the Championship.

 

Can't ditch Ameobi, there's 2 games a season we need Ameobi for.
Ranger needs more games this season (hopefully he'll advance like Carroll did last season) and we can play Gervinho off him
Besty - good squad player
Loven - probably wouldnt get any takers if we tried to sell him, may as well hand onto him for a bit of squad depth.

 

Xisco and Lovenkrands to go and get two new srikers in.

Shola is a great servant but he's back up; always has been when we have decent strikers in the team.

Ranger either needs to get loan time at a CCC club to be honest. He's only 19 and has a few years until he'll push through into possibly the 3rd choice striker.

 

Lovenkrands was pathetic on Saturday, anybody else on as long as he was would have scored and we'd have gone on to win.

Best and Ranger may not be quite what we want but they were both a street in front of PL.
