To be honest I’m not really sure I want us to get in the play offs and get promoted. The premier league is so rigged for the bigger and richer teams I really can’t be bothered
I can’t wait. The highlights of the season will be a smash and grab 2-1 win away to palace and only losing to man city by 2 goals. We will beam as pep compliments our playing style. And light show.

I still think he was looking for the incoming aerial cross as the ball glanced gently off his foot into the goal.

Bree's ability to put the ball into troublesome areas for defenders is yet another reason the banishment to Charlton seems very odd.
Something really weird about JB going to Charlton. He’s an excellent re-sign for us, can only assume someone just didn’t like his unassuming manner and his ability to do the simple things right!! Why could we possibly need that sort of player????
Well done James, keep going son!!!!!

I don’t like that being a pen. Soft af. So you’re saying if you just stick your leg out to try and get stood on it’s a pen? Charles didn’t make a challenge, he was running to the ball. The Cov player stuck his leg out in front of Charles and Charles stood on his foot unintentionally. Meanwhile the wrestling that goes on at every corner is fine? Downes was in a head lock and thrown to the floor behind Matsuki for his goal. But that’s fine. But if you accidentally stand on someone’s foot who is running away from goal and just trying to get in the way it’s a pen? Bollocks to that.

Exactly, and i don't recall an outpouring of grief or rage from many on here when Bree went on loan. It was all a bit meh.

He has come back better and proving a point and we are benefiting from that.
Mmm... there were quite a few of us who called it out as a daft move at the time.

EDIT: Found this thread. Makes for some fun reading, for those of us who defended Bree and Manning. (Page 2 is good for Bree comments, though maybe it was only me defending him).

I would take it even further. Any type of cynical action, where there is no intention of playing the ball, should be clamped down by the laws far more than it is. And certainty more than unintentional accidents such as Charles'.

It's one of those. You give the ref a decision. To make. By the letter of law probably a pen. In the context of the physical game, never a pen
And that completely sums up why refs who don’t play the game can never get a true picture of what goes on in the heat of the moment. All they can do is give an opinion based on the laws, which are often completely irrelevant and outdated.

In this scenario, I don't know he can give anything other than a pen. He clearly impeded him by standing on his foot (which will hurt as well). In this case the laws are fine, it's clearly a careless challenge therefore penalty. Charles was clumsy there. Not sure why he needed to get that close given he was going away from goal.

Depends if you think it was a challenge or just them both running towards the ball

Obviously much different level but I remember a pen being given against me when we were both running towards the ball and the opponent cut in front of me and I clipped his heel despite not challenging or changing my running path at all. Thought it was harsh at the time, but ultimately he would’ve got the ball first and that’s the same case in this scenario so I think it is a pen, even if it is very harsh on Charles.

Is quite similar to those pens you see where defender goes to clear the ball and attacker just jumps in front of them and gets booted. Those should never be pens either imo but they are. Maybe some changes to the rules are needed but as it stands both scenarios are pens

So many penalties are given when the defending player isn't denying a goal-scoring opportunity ... like ours against Coventry or when the ball is running out of play wide of the goal etc.

A crazy idea perhaps would be to instead give free-kicks in those scenarios. They'd be very dangerous free-kicks due to the proximity to goal but players, managers and fans alike would be less aggrieved by the example we had at the weekend

Only just got round to watching the highlights. Turns out the penalty I thought was a joke was actually pretty clear lol. Fair play ref.

That Peretz save was even better than I thought. Genuinely incredible.

TBF it looked very soft from the stand. No one near me thought it was a pen.
