I don't think we can really just blame the ref if we don't get anything out of this,.

Poor performance and that is after having a long break to do a lot of training according to the manager.

Of course we can,its the same every time we're not winning ! Easy target,one day there'll be no Referees left when they've had enough of the constant abuse

I did it for long enough, several Cup Finals too, and a season award.
It's basic decision making and an abject inability or unwillingness to apply the sanction s accordingly. Given their PGMO status, far too many are not up to the job.
