Only mechanical failure will stop Mercedes winning tomorrow.

These new rules simply do not make any sense. Formula 1 have never been about battery deployment and running out of it on the straight.

Formula 1 used to the equivalent of a double espresso

It’s now been turned into a soy latte.

If that’s one of the worst tracks, then I think we’ve avoided “unwatchable”. Occasionally the cars look awesome, but that entry into turn 9 that used to be the highlight of a qualifying lap now looks like I could do it and I think we’re going to see that in quite a few places this year.

Management on qualifying laps doesn’t suggest this will be true, but it would be nice if Qualifying, no longer is so dominant in terms of the race result and at least Leclerc is right in behind the Mercedes, so with the Ferrari’s starting prowess, he might give Russell something to think about.

Good to have a potentially fast car in Verstappen at the back as we should get an early indication of how raceable and how much overtaking these cars are capable of.

I agree with you about the entry into turn 9 no longer a highlight. You could hear the engine on Hulk`s Audi as he approached the quick left / right and there was a definite lift. Pathetic. !

One thing in particular I don’t understand is about Max’s off .

Clearly not his fault , but are they saying it was a technical issue with the car or are they saying it is part of the learning curve of harvesting / deploying electrical energy ?

Either way I’m just glad no car was following close behind !

I’m already getting a bit hacked off with some sky commentators gushing love / utter excitement at the new format .

It’s almost like they’ve been instructed to love it no matter what .

And for Button to be so gushing about AMR is embarrassing IMHO .

AMR may well turn it around , but he’s comparing them to the top 3 <doh>

He is a paid spokesperson for the team, it’s unfortunately inevitable I suspect.

The onboard of Russell's pole lap is just sad. It's like watching an under fuelled car limp to the end of the race. And that's the car that's 8 tenths clear!

I suppose I'll forgive it if the racing is amazing, but it's really not looking good.

Congrats on the WDC George Russell.
AMR were a surprise, I didn't think they'd get anywhere near Q2, and Audi look to have done a great job

Interesting how much the midfield looks different to testing, with Alpine well back and Audi and RB relatively strong.

Il reserve judgment when we see the race action, however, this does not feel like Formula 1.

The high speed chicane at 9/10 becoming a safe recharge zone is pretty sad, hopefully that might provide a bit of encouragement for someone not to, and go for a pass, but even then I feel it's going to be more interesting than exhilarating like a pass there normally would.
