Gardner to quit Sunderland after six months Published 22:30 19/12/11 By Simon Bird Recommend Craig Gardner is set to quit Sunderland after just six months and seek a move back to the Midlands. The £5million midfielder has failed to settle away from his family after joining the Wearsiders from Birmingham City in the summer, with Wolves interested. New Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has spoken in positive terms about getting Gardner's career started again after he failed to win a regular spot in Steve Bruce's side. But a quick sale - with Wolves interested - would end the player's North-East misery and raise cash for O'Neill's January spending, with a goalscorer, a left winger and an attacking midfielder the priority. Would be good if we can get our money back for the lad, was a poor signing 2bh and I still think there is only Vaughan that is only good in our group of p*** p*** central midfielders. Get our money and get someone with abit of creativity next to Vaughan
If we recoup the £5m outlaid in August and use it to part fund 2 or 3 new faces then there will be few tears shed on both sides. I really fail to see how he couldn't settle as its not as if he is from a foreign climate. I mean Birmingham is a complete ****-hole of a city and is there anything better for scenery than Durham or Northumberland? We have a fantastic coastline stretching some 50 miles and large urban and culturally progressive cities. We are a friendly and warm people and our region is blessed with clean air and excellent standards of life. Right now I can begin to see why he didn't settle when I look at things more closely. Its not a midlands **** tip up here is it? Lol
Question Billy................................. who the **** is Simon Bird? sounds a dodgy geezer to me.
Gardener has NEVER been given a chance. He ended up the top scorer at a ****e Birmingham side last season with 10 goals. That's the same as a certain Asamoah... **** knows what was going on with Bruce, I remember the time he started the game without a recognized striker in the side.. something like a 4-6-0 with Sess being the guy who goes up front if we manage to get away on the break. And even when Bruce did a 4-6-0 he still didn't play with Gardener. Gardener will get goals. He just needs the chance.
I can see some truth in this story because first Bruce and now MON seem to be having trouble with the lad. Its just one of those things, some people just dont settle and until you try you dont know. No bodies fault in my eye just a fact of life.
We'll know better by January. Bruce never did give the lad a chance, but MON has only been here two weeks, and is still juggling the midfield to find the best combination. He might get his chance in December. If he doesn't then I wouldn't blame the lad for leaving. Sometimes you just don't fit in a club. Can't be helped.
Next month is going to be a busier transfer period than SAFC have seen in a good few years I reckon. Players going both ways .. If Garnders unsettled for whatever reason, best let him on his way, sure O'Neil will use the money wisely.
I dont think we will TBH, a few in yes but I dont see many going out, if any.I think MON will keep all he can and use the remainder of the season to decide who stays and who goes with the big rebuild then. Of course if a good offer comes in or a player makes it clear he wants out then they will go.
Good luck finding someone to pay the 5m you did in the summer. I said at the time it was an absolute rip based on him scoring 10 goals or so last year. Yet when you watched Birmingham all he did except the goals was give the ball away. Terrible signing, the lad is sub standard. Did O'Neill not ditch him at Villa? I think if you can get 2.5m I'd snap their hands off, he's ****e.
With the look of Villa's midfield they might very well buy him back, especially with Mclish as manager.
Why the **** did you's not play him? He's not amazing, but he's like a Nolan. He can score goals and has a cracking shot on him.
Find it amazing that Gardner is classed as a 'goalscoring' midfielder !, one good season in his career...reminds me a lot of Tommy 'the invisible man' Miller
