To be honest I couldn't remember but after a check on Wiki (the wonders of technology) it seems it was Dale Arden, well done <ok>

I do appreciate memories are selective, and after a while also faulty, but no matter how many times I go to the KC, which is not as frequent as I would wish, I don't get the 'buzz' I use too when at Boothferry Park. The younger generation will not know any difference of course but I just get the feeling that its ok for a pop/rock concert, well there is nowhere else around, but for a football match its a dead loss, not sure about the egg chasers view.

BP was definitely more atmospheric than The KC. It was as if you could feel the aura of the past hanging over it, but I have to admit that it also had a feeling of failure for me. I guess it depended on how the team was doing at the time, but I always felt as if it was a almost a symbolic reminder of generations of teams that toiled but inevitably failed. The KC doesn't have the same history of course, but I think it has a much more positive feel which is natural when you consider the success City have had there.
Edit:
Sorry about the negative tone of that post. I sound like a manic depressive!
What I was trying to say was that we didn’t manage to achieve our ultimate goal of the first Division during our time at BP. The number of victories we had there hugely outweighed the defeats.

Great memory Charles.Hull City were second to Rotherham when that Christmas day match in 1948 was played and beat them 3-2.He was there too on his perch at the very back of the North Stand!
Also drew with them at Rotherham a couple of days later in the return game. Of course Hull City were promoted that year finishing ahead of Rotherham(Darlington finished 4th).

Rotherham were the perennial Bridesmaid. They finished runners-up in 46/47,47/48,48/49 before joining Hull City in the old Division 2 after finishing first in 50/51.

Great Tread.

The first game I can remember was city 4 - 1 Leicester circa 1970.Ken Houghton scored with a stunning volley from 25-30 yards. I'm sure it was goal of the season on yorkshire TV that year. Do any of you remember
that show? It was on about 2pm the following sunday after World at War. The commentator was Keith Macklin and it only seemed to feature Leeds , Sheff Wed , Sheff Utd , Huddersfield & Us.

Was at the Stoke Quarter final. i still think Terry Neill's header which Gorden Banks saved crossed the line.

Do any of you remember the "Crystal Of Hull" Golden Goal Girls were you predicted the time of the first goal. Jasper Carrott did a sketch about it. He had down " February 27th"!!

Went to the Northern Ireland v Spain Euro Qualifier at BP in 1972. In the Ireland team that day was Pat Jennings , Pat Rice , Our own Terry Neill , Bryan Hamilton , Martin O'Neill , Sammy McIiroy & George Best
. the game ended 1-1

Got into the Sheff Wed game on boxing day for free at 3/4 quarter time with City 1-4 down. the game ended 4-4 and I seem to remember Ian McKechnie kicking the ball over the railway line!!

Remember playing Man Utd at BP circa 1974. At 2-30 there wasn't a Man U fan to be seen. Then two massive special trains pulled into BP station with about 2000 fans on board. Great game which City won 2-0

There was England U23 game against Sweden at BP which England won 2-0. I'm sure the likes of Peter Shilton , Brian Kidd , David Nish & Trevor Francis featured for England.

Thanks for those memories tiger d. How did this 'Crystal Of Hull' thing work? Was it on telly or live at the game?
And while we're talking about Hull City kicking Manchester United's ar5es here's another one from crazycanucktiger on the Hull City Mad site:
OK, found it...
Jan 12th 1952 - we beat Man U 2-0 AT OLD TRAFFORD!!!
Man U. were sitting 2nd in Div 1 (& were the eventual champions).
We were sitting 21 out of 22 in Div 2 (eventually safe)
Wonder what type of a team Man U put out that day!?!?
We went on to play Blackburn Rovers (a 2nd div team then) in the next round losing 2-0.

Does anyone else have any good stories about us beating the top 5 or 6 just to warm us up in this arctic weather?

Dredging the fountains of Memory, Mrs. BMB! So far, all I can remember is that it ended ".....we're Minors of the A - B - C!" (with A - B - C on rising notes)

[Damn! All I can think of is the Ovaltineys' Song!]

A Top Commendation for honesty though! I will never forget the words as I used to go on stage to lead the singing at my local cinema in the 50's.

My husband says he was a Minor at the ABC Royalty on Southcoates Lane in the 40's and loved the Saturday morning show and singing the song. Reckons he got the vocal cords tuned before heading off to Boothferry Park to sing the "Boothferry Roar" in the Raich Carter era.

Did he have a membership card? I had one at the Regal and I got it stamped each Saturday morning I went. When it was your birthday and you had the required number of stamps on your card, you got called up on to the stage to take part in a competition/stunt. For one of mine, I got up with a few others and we all had to race across the stage on 'Mobo' horses, One kid, racing hard, fell into the orchestra pit! The prize was presented (not to me!) by Ronnie Ronalde, who the did his whistling and yodelling act.

Big days! Simpler times!

" How did this 'Crystal Of Hull' thing work? Was it on telly or live at the game?"

It wasn't on the telly it was just a local thing. From memory you bought a ticket with a time on it. If that time was the nearest to the first goal scored i think you won £100. The "Golden goal" girls dressed in Hot
pants would carry at big board onto the pitch at half time displaying the winning time (which must have been the first goal from the previous match). and invited the winner to join them on the pitch to collect
the winning money. I think all the winners then went into a prize draw at the end of the season to win a super "Crystal Of Hull " Ford Escort MK1. I can't remember what happened if the game was 0-0???

In the good old days when Darlington used to play against Hull City my better half serenaded me with this version of the famous old Glasgow Rangers anthem whenever Hull City won.

Follow follow we will follow the Tigers.
Everywhere anywhere we will follow on
There's not a team like the Hull City Tigers
No not one No not one

The Quakers know all about their troubles
But we will fight till the day is done
There's not a team like Hull City Tigers
No not one and there never shall be one.

Evidently a non-Quakers version was sung in the 50's by my husband's friend group on an Old Town pub crawl around Mytongate on a Friday/ Saturday night prior to finishing up at the Hull City Hall dance.

Pubs visited included the White Hart, Bluebell Inn, Corn Exchange and the Tivoli Tavern. The latter was licenced by his dad when he was born in '38 but was pulled down in 1976 so I missed out on seeing it on my first visit to Hull in 1977. Always have a nostalgic tour of the others though on our rare visits to Hull.

Mrs BMB and dem_on do you know roughly the year(s) when those songs were sung and also what were the tunes they were sung to?
Also does anyone know the words to other City songs? I forgot all about how relevant these songs are in our history and the picture they help to paint of different eras.

To Bladon Races(not sure when it's from, but it must still have been sung when I started going in the late 70's)

Oh, the lads, you should have seen their faces,
Travelling down the Boothferry Road to see the City aces,
All the lads and lasses there, with all their smiling faces,
Travelling down the Boothferry Road.....to see the City aces.

Was it 'travelling' or just 'going' OLM? To be honest I can't remember myself.
