Would this be totally wide of the mark?

I agree with Smudger that Guti seems to be better on the left. Basically because his crossing is poor and his style is instead to cut inside and go direct at goal, which means he is better suited to playing on the left. It seems that even when he skins the right back and gets to the byline he would prefer to continue running the ball into the box rather than whipping in a cross. On the other hand I accept that we haven't seen a great deal of him on the right and it might be an idea to give him a few games there. Admittedly this is me showing a bias because I would like to see Fergie given a run in the team instead of Obertan and this would require Guti to switch sides.

But this is just my opinion.

At least you have one. Smudge just backs the manager no matter what. Even when he disagrees. Strange.

Why bring me into this when I've dropped it? I'm so terribly sorry for supporting the manager of my football team. I disagree with him but respect him and see why he did what he did. Drop it, for christ's sake.

Support the manager all you like. I dont have a problem. But when you question my opinion so much when you aren't even using your own personal opinion in comparison is just ridiculous and pointless.

    Just leave it alone.

    Im bored.

I mean 3 pages ago. Started a pointless debate, in which your own opinion seemed to match mine. Pointless.

My opinion was that none of us have any idea how Ben Arfa would have done so to slate Pardew so much is stupid.

I'd be more than happy for Santon to stay as a left back IF we put a left footed midfielder in. Having both of them as right footers (when we have a **** ton on left footers in the squad these days) just seems pathetic to me. Stalls play and makes you predictible to opposition full backs, theres never any real dangerous overlaps. Santon behind Marveaux would work perfectly for me.

Sammy on the right is even worse than Obertan from every match ive seen with him. He's only impressed me when he's came on and played LM and been able to cross it properly.

Jonas played pretty poorly that whole game that he switched to the right, but he also played on the right side of midfield during some pre season games like the Orlando one and seemed a lot more comfortable.

Id be happy if they just had the freedom to switch over flanks during games, like a lot of good wide players do.

I never look at the teamsheet, see Jonas and Obertan on the LM/RM and think anything positive about the chances they can create...

I love teams using inverted wingers, but i think it ONLY works when those wingers are goal threats themselves and neither of ours are. Ben Arfa would be a completely different story, yet he isnt even used.

Totally agree. When Marv is back I'd like to see him on the left (Santon LB for variety of foot), Jonas on the right with Simmo/Raylor RB, again giving a different foot. That way, we can either go down the wing or cut inside on both flanks, and cause huge problems.
