after years of being forced to buy a decent Xmas Pork Pie in the West Riding, for reasons not worthy of this board, I am forced to try to buy a good one over here this year. I want a traditional pie with lots of jelly (eg Skeltons), preferably in West Hull or West Hull Villages, but not Fields of Anlaby as I tried that and it was horrible! Any suggestions? P.S. the key is in the jelly and I think Hull is the only place in Yorkshire where they think a porker is better without it!

Leaks Butchers opposite Tesco in Market Weighton. I think he buys them in from Holme upon Spalding Moor , might be wrong about that but they're very good

Newport Butchers, can't vouch for their pork pies as pork pies are vomit. But, if they are as good as the standard pies then well worth the trip. They make award winning pies, and they are outstanding. One thing Newport is good for <laugh>

I'll 2nd this option, but still think Newport will be better. Put it this way relatives from Harrogate and Aberdeen always take pies back home from Newport!

I'm afraid not, I get my pork pies from a butchers near Whitby(and they don't have much jelly), but the missus says they're very good from Drewton's(she's out, so I can't check the jelly situation currently).

Newport has gone down the pan a bit lately.

The old lass who used to make all the cooked stuff (Pies\Pastries etc) retired a couple of weeks back and they havent been the same since.

They still have a xmas order from me though ;)

A lad at work bought one from Drewtons the other week.

Said it was a fine savoury but nearly fainted at the price.

Steve Lilley in South Cave is a great butcher although I haven't tried one of his pork pies.
His sausage rolls are superb though.

Try making one yourself Mussie? There's loads of recipes on t'interweb and you're guaranteed to get in Mrs Mussie's good books (unless it's rank of course)

hate to be a bit of a show off here but I live in the next village along from Denby Dale which to the uneducated of you has the tagline of 'The Pie Village'. there's a butchers called Gawthorpe's and their pork pies are superb. they do a traditional but also the 'celebrity' ones with fancy additions. the locals from round these parts call the large ones a 'stand pie'.

by my name you'll deduce that I'm somewhat of an expert but I also did 3 Christmas's above a butchers making holes and pouring in hot liquid jelly.

my pack up was a spoon and jar of branston pickle :)
