Haha I wondered if someone would notice that term and imply it to Chris Samba, you didn't disappoint. <applause>

If I remember correctly Marc Vivien Foe failed a medical somewhere before he went to City because of a serious medical condition, played fine for about a season at City before keeling over and dying on the pitch for Cameroon. Doesn't necessarily mean the player is injured (although dying will severely hamper your chances of holding down a regular first team spot)

I love that people compare it to Demba Ba. One is costing 7m, one is free. You can take a punt on the free guy, taking a punt on a 7m man is just plain stupid and irresponsible. I've only seen little bits of him but I would prefer Zaha from what I've seen. That said there must be some reason we liked him. I just hope our striker money hasn't been re-routed to our defender budget and we're still getting both. We are now full on desperate for a centre back and left back. A quality striker is then next. Further down the line some cover for Cheik and a proper wide right man would be nice.

If we had say, 12 million to spend, perhaps we thought we'd prefer the bulk of it to be spent on a defender as it has overtaken striker as priority? Could mean taking a punt on a cheaper striker but getting someone less risky/more established in defence.

If that is the case I'd rather go with what we have in the strikers then. The next striker we get is going to cost money if they are the right one. Some won't like it but if cash is tight then I reckon we can get by.

Agree (unless we find someone very undervalued), we have enough to get by with relative comfort until summer, Best was lurking behind Ba for a lot of his goals, could have scored them himself if Ba wasnt as predatory.

Nah, he's over-rated. I'd prefer Jordan Rhodes if we only have a small striker budget.

I like him too. He and Forrest lit up the U21s v the Dutch. But I like Zaha. I think he is very direct and immensely strong. I know folk are now getting excited about him and Clyne because of the Man U game but they are better than just that game. I've watched a fair bit and they stand out massively for Palace. Whether Zaha is what we need is something different altogether of course. I'm not sure Maiga was the right buy afterall. He seems to play the right side of a front three, we don't play that way. Like Zaha I'm not sure he is a natural striker. Of course it depends what Pards is after, he may see us changing to that.

As I say I'd rather buy no striker than another run of the mill guy no better than the likes of Shola and Lover. With strikers 99% of the time you have to pay good money. The likes of Ba are a rarity. We are going to need to get the cheque book out for a quality player if we want to improve. I'd rather us fill the key areas of left back and centre back in January, and spend the whole summer budget on one class striker.
