Must be right Claridge says its all Gulys fault! He should of stayed on the line, but a defender he is not.
We need Billy sharp in jan. After seeing his finishing yesterday and Guly's ****e performance its not good enough to be inconsistent!
That was an awful game. Hardly any quality on display and a crappy equaliser, thanks to Guly. Like I said, I'll take the point, but I am gutted we couldn't hang on to the lead. Three points to Saints at SMS in April...
He is 6ft3 odd ( I think) he could have easily had just headed the ball. But he chickened it and turned his back, you don't have to be a defender to know you shouldn't turn your back.
Blame Guly as much as you like (and rightly so, he was at fault), but some blame also needs to go to Harding imo. I thought he panicked with the clearance, and just smashed it straight behind when he actually had a bit of time to get the ball under some control and smash it either out for a throw or up the field.
Harding came on, why I don't know. Poor corner to give away and poor defending by Guly the forward... I wanted us to take him off a few mins before and we just kept the same. Lallana should have had a shr instead of playing through ball to Guly as well!
I agree with St Brendy. Typical Harding, no brains, kick it anywhere rather than think! He is the Saints biggest liability.
theres a suprise - what else would you have done in that situation? there wasnt a lot of safe options was there?
Used my head, got the ball at my feet, and hit it elsewhere else than straight behind for a corner. I'm not saying he had lots of time on his hands, but he had enough to do something better than just smash it behind first time.
I agree, I don't know what else Harding could have done, he had a player right behind him so IMO made the right choice.
With the Pompey long throw option, defending a corner SHOULD have been the safer option as its something teams practice all the time and 95% of corners normally lead to nothing. Two mistakes cost us, not Hardings, but Hoovield not winning the first challenge and then Guly the 2nd.
Just back from the pub where I was the only person even slightly interested in the match. I thought Saints were on top most of the game, and man for man outplayed Pompey, with the exception of Guly who did nothing of merit the whole game, and who was totally to blame for their goal, regardless of whose fault the corner was. Why put a big lump like Guly on the post if he isn't going to at least challenge for the ball? I am a huge fan of Guly, but that has to be his worst performance for the club. Apart from that, the match showed how short of a decent strike force we are. We MUST get another striker in Jan, someone to keep the opposition guessing. Anyway , well played Saints, a draw is enough to keep us on top for Christmas, and 2 home games to consolidate our position before the window opens. COYR!!!
It's been obvious since the start of the season, and unfortunately it's getting more and more obvious as every game passes. But still, with these two home games to come, every reason to remain positive.
