Just reading a piece about Don Murray, very sad news. Cardiff City great issues plea amid battle The family of Cardiff City icon Don Murray have issued an emotional plea for support as the club legend continues his battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Murray, who made more than 400 appearances for the Bluebirds and famously featured in the club’s historic clash with Real Madrid at Ninian Park, now requires round-the-clock care as his condition deteriorates. A GoFundMe page has been launched to help cover the growing cost of his daily support, with a target of £26,000. At the time of writing, just over £1,280 has been raised. In a heartfelt message, Murray’s family described the devastating impact of the disease, which affects memory, movement, behaviour and sleep, and can progress into Parkinson’s. “To thousands of City fans, Don is the man who made over 400 appearances for the Bluebirds – among them that night against Real Madrid,” the family wrote. "To us, he’s our beloved husband, father and grampy. It was awful news when he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and as a disease that gets worse over time, Don is now unable to care for himself, requiring round-the-clock assistance.” They are now appealing to supporters, friends and the wider football community to help fund Murray’s ongoing care needs. “The Murray family are encouraging supporters and friends to donate towards Don’s daily welfare and ongoing care,” they added. “We wish to say a special thank you to all the truly amazing fans and friends who have already been in touch with us to offer support.” They also urged those unable to contribute financially to share the fundraising page to help spread the word: “Any donations are appreciated as we work to arrange ongoing care for Don. If you are unable to donate, we kindly ask that you share this page with fellow City fans: it will help us all enormously.” https://gofund.me/3a5f1749a
