Interesting as I was wondering why we were hopeless at corners both ends when we’ve been so good at times I think Jack THB Wood have it sussed but Quarshie messes with it
You’re right, but it’s a bit like there’s more to comment on in the 2nd half, when the 1st half was just brilliant and really needs no comment I am so happy that we are so much better under Tonda, and the 2nd half was exciting in its way, and we still won … But boy did we try and **** it up Hopefully we can improve on that If we want to control games when we have a big lead we need to do it further away from our own goal and offer some threat to push their defence back a bit
He reminds me a bit of Konate at Liverpool. Speed and power are there, and he has the materials to be a good defender (and we need to give him time to develop), but I suspect he'll have a Katie Price sized boob in him just waiting to pop out.
Agree on a lot of comments on the second half. From an attacking viewpoint, Tonda has clearly cracked the myth that playing three at the back is defensive. The issues 2nd half probably started mentally. Fair play to WBA in that they kept at us and didn’t give up, but i think our players just didn’t know whether to stick or twist and as such thought we could just defend deep and try not to do anything stupid. 3-1 The next problem is energy levels and a dip in squad quality. We ask a lot of Scienza and Fellows in terms of running and neither go much beyond an hour. We then look no where near as dangerous on the break and as such teams probably feel even more emboldened to press us 3-2 Because we’re not able to do true like for like subs then I do believe Tonda needs to be prepared to change or adapt the formation. It sounds counter intuitive, but it would probably have been better to lose a centre back and get an extra man in midfield to get a grip of possession and ease the pressure that way. Hopefully we find ourselves 3-0 on Saturday, so he can keep practicing
I'm still very eager to see how Edozie might perform under Tonda, should he get the chance. I'm hoping, maybe naively, that he could become a very useful option second half option.
