The only downside was that unless you go to the games you had to rely on the write up in the next morning's newspapers.

If I remember correctly, in the post to which Hairy refers, I criticised WhoScored ratings on the grounds that they relied too heavily upon countable ball events while claiming to adjust the overall rating to reflect the player's "contribution" in the context of the game. We can all agree that Mattsson's performances in the last couple of games have been "very effective and a big part of our improvement", but it certainly didn't register with WhoScored last night.

In the 1950's we had Sports Report on BBC radio reporting on various games that had finished but you never knew which ones you were going to get as the reporter had to find a phone box!! When that finished at 6pm you went and joined the queue for the pink un.

I recall in the 70s you could go to the match (the uncovered Riverend in my case) and then buy a freshly printed Pinkun with a match report and other City news on your way out. I can remember taking my girl (now my wife) to a match when it pissed down the whole time. She's never been again. In her opinion our song should have been 'On the ball City, never mind the weather!' For away games, you had to watch the scores on Ceefax and wait for the Pinkun to arrive at the local newsagent.
