    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 9 December 2025
    Kick off - 7:45pm

Following their deserved and much needed win over fellow strugglers Oxford United, next up for Vitor Matos’ Swansea squad is another home match against another struggling team, Portsmouth.

Last Saturday, Josh Tymon scored a stunning volley as the Swans ended their five-game losing streak with victory over fellow Championship strugglers Oxford United.

Marko Stamenic headed the Swans into a deserved lead late in the first period before Tymon arrowed the ball into the top corner from 20 yards on the stroke of half-time: a ‘Worldie’ if ever there was one!

The Swans held on with relative comfort after the break to register a first win in seven league fixtures, with Vitor Matos claiming his first points in his third game as the Welsh club's head coach.

Swansea's triumph means they climb above Oxford into 20th, three points above the relegation places, with Gary Rowett's U's two points worse off in 21st.

Whilst the Swans were beating Oxford, tragically
a Charlton Athletic fan died after their Championship game against Portsmouth was abandoned.

The players initially waited on the pitch while emergency staff dealt with a medical emergency in the lower tier of the Covered End in the 12th minute, before referee Matthew Donohue told them to return to the dressing rooms.

The game, which was goalless, was properly called off nearly an hour after the incident occurred.

A devastating day for all. <rose>

The Swans have played Portsmouth on 34 previous occasions, winning 7, losing 12 and drawing 15.

In last season’s corresponding match, the teams played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with the Swans fighting back to claim a point after going 0-2 down:

Turning to tomorrow, the Swans will be desperate to back up last Saturday’s win with another to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone, whilst Portsmouth will be eager to claw themselves out of the bottom 3, whilst at the same time dragging the Swans right into the dog fight.

Personally, I think the Swans will build on last Saturday’s win and will run out 3-1 victors.

    Hope I’m right<cheers>

Tom Reeves will be the referee when Swansea City host Portsmouth at the Swansea.com Stadium tomorrow night.

Reeves will be taking charge of a Swans game for the first time, and this will be just his fourth Championship fixture.

The Coventry official has been refereeing in the EFL since the 2021-22 campaign after three seasons in the National League.

So far this season he has had the whistle for 15 games, handing out 48 yellow cards and one red.

Tomorrow evening he will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Hugh Gilroy.

Gavin Ward will be the fourth official.

    Thanks Taff

Its very rare that we get maximum points on a double header at home but need must and I will go for 3-1 to the Swans which should mean that we are going in the right direction ..

I'm liking the positivity, everyone going for a win - including me. Vital that we build the confidence now, as we can play better. I'll go 4 - 1

Cheers Taff. Not sure if it's this one or a snippet but I'll pop this in here as well. Baptism of fire for VM, straight in at the deep end but change is happening now.

Josh Key was sidelined on the weekend due to illness, with Matos waiting to see if the right-back is well enough to be in contention to return against Portsmouth.

The Swans boss otherwise has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Vitor Matos: "When you build new ideas with wins, it's 10 times easier because it gives the feeling that you are improving, but it's just one step.

"We need to improve in a lot of areas on the game. We need to find the consistency, especially when we are in the second half, the ways that we need to control the game better.

"What we need to do, is to recover well and do everything we can [to prepare for Portsmouth]. The departments and the club help the players to recover, [we] find the best XI possible and compete again."

John Mousinho: "Swansea have had a change in manager, and the new manager has come in and they look a different team.

"They took a lot of positivity into the Oxford game, and hopefully Tuesday will be a good game."

For Portsmouth, Andre Dozzell will serve a one-match ban after collecting his fifth Championship booking of the season against Bristol City, while Florian Bianchini cannot feature against his parent club.

Pompey are also missing Jacob Farrell (groin), Connor Ogilvie (knee), Conor Shaughnessy (hamstring), Franco Umeh (hamstring) and Thomas Waddingham (thigh), with Josh Knight (back) and Regan Poole (ankle) both doubts.

Time to end this terrible run:

The Swans are winless in their past 13 league games against Portsmouth (D8 L5) since a 4-0 home win in December 1960 - 65 bloody years <yikes>

Adam Idah starts for Swansea City in the solitary change for tonight's Championship clash with Portsmouth.

The striker takes the place of Zan Vipotnik in the only alteration to the XI that started the weekend win over Oxford.

Josh Key returns from illness to take a place on the bench, and will make his 100th Swansea appearance should he be summoned as a substitute.

Lawrence Vigouroux is in goal, with Ethan Galbraith, captain Ben Cabango, Cameron Burgess and Josh Tymon making up the back four.

Marko Stamenic, Goncalo Franco and Melker Widell continue in midfield, with Ronald and Jisung Eom again out wide.

Idah leads the line for the hosts.

Swansea City: Lawrence Vigouroux, Ethan Galbraith, Ben Cabango (captain), Cameron Burgess, Josh Tymon; Marko Stamenic, Goncalo Franco, Melker Widell; Ronald, Jisung Eom, Adam Idah.

Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Josh Key, Jay Fulton, Malick Yalcouye, Zan Vipotnik, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Liam Cullen, Kaelan Casey, Zeidane Inoussa.
