Shame the council of a much larger city just 37 miles to the north of Lincoln with a much larger underused city centre and poor Christmas market offering of just one single Bratwurst hut didn't recognise the opportunity of relocating some of it here then.

If really want a good traditional Christmas market, then sadly the best options are abroad. Head to Nuremburg and go to the Christkindlesmarkt in the Hauptmarkt.

Maybe fly into Stuttgart and then hop on the train to Nuremburg, as flights into Nuremburg airport are pretty expensive due to all the bloody Christmas Markets being on <doh>

My family flew to Luxembourg this year. I was in Lower Saxony and went to one.

What I like is the having some nosh and a drink and I don’t like the tat.

I asked because I couldn’t see anything about one in Hull, now I know why!

I went to 3 last week in Germany; Aachen, Cologne and Rüdesheim. All three make the wannabe British Christmas markets look totally pathetic, as indeed do all the German Christmas markets I've ever been to.

Want to go to the Nuremberg one, but it's not gonna be this year.

If you’re passing Nottingham and fancy getting a hotel, their giant ski lodge Christmas bar is a cracking night out. They have an ice bar too which is an experience but needs to be pre booked and I think all weekends are sold out.

Looks like Leeds, York, Halifax and Sheffield are on after the 20th. Think that is the date you gave OM?

Went to one in Manchester a few years ago, needed a mortgage to pay for anything. I heartily dislike both Bratwurst and Gluhwein as well. Yes I know, I'm a miserable **** but I dislike being ripped off.

Went to all those 3, and some others, a few years ago on a Christmas Market Rhine cruise. Cologne is a great place, amazing when you consider how it was flattened in the war, great bars and a number of markets apart from the main one. Rudesheim was wonderful, extremely pretty place with plenty to see. All made better by a Rudesheim coffee or two. Not advisable for anyone driving or operating machinery.<laugh> Can’t bear our poor imitations after witnessing the real thing.

I have to admit to liking German Sausage!

In the culinary sense and not what you dirty bastards thought!

I don’t think it is being ripped off, paying £6 for a Bratwurst in a roll.
The fries are another matter completely!

Enjoyed the bratwurst and gluhwen, and a lot of other things, at German Christmas Markets. Always better in the countries where they originate.

Christmas Eve tradition, my family come round and we have Bratwurst cooked on the bbq.
I tend to do mulled wine as I think the cloves etc make it more Christmasy.
