A treat for fans of classic Doctor Who this evening; 7pm BBC 4 - The Sea Devils (a Jon Pertwee story from 1972) The original cut was a rather plodding 6 x 25 minute episode story, but the Beeb have created this edited 90 minute version. They are showing it as the curtain raiser for their 5 part sci-fi mini-series starting at 8:30pm on BBC1 The War between the Land and the Sea (two 45 minute episodes tonight) A re-imagining of the Sea Devils story, brought up to date.
I found that watchable, with a few interesting ideas. Sicking up all the pollution in the oceans & dumping it on cities around the World was a good twist. Some echoes of Torchwood: Children of Earth (2009) Which in turn had echoes of Quatermass (the 1979 ITV produced series starring John Mills) So sound British sci-fi foundations at least. I hope there will be some more twists in the remaining three episodes.
No, unfortunately not. The kind of thing I would probably enjoy, but I don't catch much TV these days.
Ah. I've recently trimmed back my various subscriptions, saving around £80 per month in total. They were getting out of control. If it's on Netflix or any of the other streaming services I won't be watching it. It's Aunty Beeb for me, plus the freeview channels. Sky Sports News is the only one I decided I couldn't manage without...
