Cant agree. Very tidy player but just doesn’t get involved. The only time you notice him is when he ****s something up. The only positive contribution I can think of off the top of my head was that BFT style diagonal ball to set Giles off down the wing who then set Joseph up to tap softly straight at the keeper when free on goal from 6 yards.

He makes triple the number of tackles per game then Slater does. Slater is just more mobile so he gets away with it as he looks busier. Slater had a decent upturn but has been god awful along with Crooks and Amir in the last 4 or so games

Amir makes quite a few tackles and interceptions per game. He’s not particularly big or strong but he’s a half-decent ball-winner. His problem is he lacks the positional discipline to just stay back and protect the defence.

Reminds me of something Guardiola said about not wanting his defensive midfielders to move around too much. A lot of the time, a defensive midfielder’s job is just being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes, they don’t even need to make a tackle or interception. Their mere presence discourages the opposition from making a certain pass or run.

It’s also why playing a box-to-box midfielder as a defensive mid rarely works. In possession, their instinct is to carry the ball forward or make a late run forward. Out of possession, they run around like labradors. In both cases, they end up being nowhere near where you want and need them to be.

He shows a few decent touches and makes a few interceptions, but he's never going to give you a match dominating/ match winning performance. Maybe he's as good as we can hope for under the embargo / signing freebies situation?

Relying on Matazo to be the defensive midfielder we desperately need? :emoticon-0138-think Bit risky as he won't be back till sometime in January is it? <yikes>

Back in Jan then off shortly after with hamstring injury seems to be the pattern.

Agreed, for a club under an embargo i reckon the only blunder has been williams, everyone else, amir included, has contributed to us being safe mid table with an eye on playoffs.....halcyon days compared to last season! we gotta remember where we came from end of last season... can be easy to look at the recent run of form and drop in the table and be disheartened but it's night and day to last year

Nobody has been a blunder under the circumstances, even Williams still has time to come good. You need your midfielders to give match dominating performances and he has been a large contributor to why we’ve consistently been overrun in the first half most games he plays. A presence in midfield is far more important than a few nice touches.

We’ve obviously got our hands tied behind our backs but we desperately need improvement in that position and even with our restrictions I’m sure we can find someone to have more impact on games than Amir.
