We generally go to Puerto de Mogan at least once every year. I love it. Some great restaurants and bars around the harbour area and along the beachfront. It's not very large and has a more chilled vibe than a banging party town. It has a massive market on a Friday which brings in a lot of punters, otherwise it's fairly quiet. It gets a lot of return visitors. Some good hotels and apartments. It's fairly flat so easy to walk round. There's a archeological site which was discovered when building one of the hotels which contains some houses and burial sites of the Island's original inhabitants. There's a ferry which runs up the coast to Puerto Rico and other resorts and the bus service is really good if needed. It is the last resort on the coastline though, so transfer times from the airport are a bit longer (about 40 mins direct).

The original inhabitants of Gran Canaria were the Canarios, a name for the indigenous people of that specific island, while the term "Guanches" more strictly refers to the inhabitants of Tenerife. These pre-Hispanic peoples are believed to be descendants of North African Berbers

Which island and resort? I've seen a few programmes and vlogs of Sal (Santa Maria) and never heard anything along those lines. Maybe applies if traveling within the less touristy Cape Verde islands?

Three of us were in Glasgow last weekend, we stayed in an Adagio Aparthotel, they have them all over Europe. We had an apartment, would sleep 4 comfortably, with a kitchen for £80/night, which I thought was pretty good. Sits somewhere inbetween travelodge and a regular 4* hotel I'd guess. I'll be keeping them in mind next time we're away somewhere.
They also provide very classy reading material :emoticon-0102-bigsm
