I said that nobody really cares about the cup, which is obvious from the fact that the vast majority of teams play their 2nd team for most of the tournament. You stating that two teams played their first teams in two rounds of the entire thing doesn't change that fact. Clubs play the teams they think they need to play, to win the fixture at hand The only teams who don’t are those struggling in the PL and those fighting for promotion in the Championship, who rightly make survival and promotion respectively, their priorities. They do exactly the same in the FA Cup.

You obviously haven’t seen who the quarter finalists are, if you think most of the teams aren’t taking it seriously. There’s 7 sides from the top 15 in the Premier League, including the current top 3. Last year’s competition was the same.

Sunderland quite rightly decided they needed to focus on the PL first, as that’s where the money is, and they were unlikely to win the EFL Cup, although losing to Huddersfield was probably an over the top way of demonstrating that.

We feel we have a chance to win it so have put out the teams we need to try and do it. We probably won’t, as it’s a strong competition again, but it’s good to see us going for it.
