Great to have the MDT up and running thanks again RTB and thanks to all the contributors. I too would like to see Brobbey and Mundle as starters, in a 4/3/3 and use Isidor and Mayenda together to see out the game. Nothing wrong with a second plan , however RLB is not doing too bad with his tactics , even though we have a habit of starting slowly we can certainly grow into games, as we have shown repeadedly . OaU PS anyone know what has happened to Scout , hes been a miss on here last few weeks.
great to see Mundle back - he also looks like he has grown and filled out a lot. Looked much more physical / a unit in his minutes on Saturday
It just feels weird we are going to Anfield, home of the reigning champions and "some" pundits are actually predicting that Sunderland will actually get something out of this game... For me...win Lose or draw, this underlines how far this amazing club have come.
Really fancy us to win this. Who would have thought that after 30 mins at Wembley. They will be nervous at home. If we can push them back their fans wont like what they are seeing.
Busy week for you RTB. Another great thread rolls off the press! I too think that we'll revert to a back 5 at Anfield. It was probably unjustified against Fulham, but has worked against the current top 2 in the division, so why not do it at Liverpool and Citeh. It'll be interesting to see if RLB chooses to rotate the squad in the next 2 games. Bournemouth was a very hard fought win and the next two will test our stamina. I certainly don't want us to be leggy on 14th, so maybe playing some of the squad for 60 minutes in each game then bringing on 5 finishers might be an option. Hume and Aldarete have had a break. Using Geertrujida could mean we could give Nordi and Dan a breather, though not at the same time. I wouldn't be too upset if Xhaka or Sadiki miss the City game either, as long as both are available for Newcastle. I want us to be fielding our strongest available 11 this month against Leeds and the Mags. Not because its a local derby, but because they are the most winnable games. Win them and we are on a minimum 28 points at the halfway stage of the season. I would probably start Brobbey up top, to hold the ball up and bring others into play. Then unleash Wilson or Eli for the last 30. This game will be tough, but our confidence should be high in the knowledge that whatever team we put out, we know that they'll give everything for the shirt and will be difficult to beat. Keeping the players fresh will be key, as will the use of our subs. I think this is a game we can get something from, so have gone for a draw. We've kept clean sheets at Palace and Forest and limited a strong Chelsea side to 1 goal. We can do it again here. Then there's always a chance of us scoring against Liverpool, who have been very shaky defensively this season. HTL!!!!!
Thanks for the thread @RTB It's bizarre this! Going to Anfield and feeling confident we can get something. Who'd have thought it?! Draw is certainly achievable but I'm hoping we can push it and claim all three points.
All things being equal I think we'd really have a chance in this game but unfortunately I think the referee's going to decide otherwise, think my head might explode with the injustice of it all even before half-time. Expecting us to return to five at the back, keeping them at bay, maybe even having a goal disallowed before the officials decide to go up front for them. Odds on a VAR penalty?
