Why is my glass always three-quarters empty ? I will get the plaudits out of the way... Thank you for battling in the 2nd half - to avoid a defeat - but - Why do Gills struggle to overcome 'lowly' placed opposition.... Shrewsbury, before today, were the 2nd lowest scorers and had the 3rd worst number of conceded goals. I wouldn't mind so much if the result was a =one-off' --- it isn't - it's the norm when we play sides who have routinely been spanked by other teams in the division..
A few of the fouls I saw on Twitter were terrible, especially the one that I think was on Palmer-Houlden, he's got him by the neck and drags him to the ground, putting his body on top of him, how did the ref or lino not see that, it was shocking. I saw the same again later another player get clattered in the six yard area. Personally after that foul with the guys arm round our players neck, the officals need suspending that can't go left unchecked, if you miss it you miss it but there has to be consequences for allowing that type of foul go. What next break someones neck!
I hate to say it but that first goal today was dreadful and I'm looking at Turner thinking what are you doing Jake. I don't know if he was blinded to it, couldn't get down to it for some reason, such a soft goal to give away. It was like watching it in slow mo crawl into the net. Eventually we got the penalty decision and it gave us chance to get back in the game, but if we didn't have blind officials it might have been a different outcome. Oh actually thinking about it, maybe not, 3-3 was probably a fair score once all is weighed up.
First half was absolutely dreadful on our part. Jonny Williams was incredibly poor and I think I'm beginning to lose patience with him now. Two and a half years here has contributed a massive 3 goals and yesterday looked so out of touch from the game. The third goal, he shouted so hard for the ball to then not react when it came to him and poked it straight in front of their oncoming player killed the momentum we had at the end of the first half after getting our first goal back. Turner was fine all game, first goal isn't really on him considering how his weight was shifted to his right. Sam Gale losing his man for the first goal is more where I'm looking if we need someone at fault. Definite red card denied for the pull back on Andrews when last man back was frustrating. McKenzie got hurt rather badly in the first half due to a reckless challenge during an aerial duel which went unpunished by the referee further compounds how poor the officiating was. Second half was much, much better and we were helped by Shrewsbury sitting back and making substitutions that made them worse. Khumbeni offered far more energy and balance to the left than Williams did and we worked hard to get back into the game. Penalty nicely tucked away by Robbie and Nev popping up with a good header for the third meant that getting drenched walking back to the car was worth it. 1. Ethan Coleman - Had to work incredibly hard to cut out a lot in the midfield and looked like he had confidence to go forwards in the 2nd half which helped overload the pressure. 2. Garath McCleary - Felt he offered nothing for the first 30 minutes but once he was able to find the space, he was able to cause Shrewsbury problems and picked up 2 assists. 3. Remeao Hutton - His balls into the box created many problems and probably deserved an assist for his efforts. Not much came down his side either during the match showing he did his defensive duties also.
