    We bought a Kia Niro self-charging hybrid earlier this year. Very happy with it. Get good mileage from it. Driving smoothly it spends a good % of the time in electric mode.

    The term "road tax" is inaccurate;
    it was effectively abolished in 1937 when the hypothecation of vehicle revenue for road maintenance ended. The tax was replaced by Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), which is paid into the general government treasury and is not specifically earmarked for road funding. This means that neither car drivers nor cyclists are "paying road tax" in the sense that their payments go directly to roads; both are funded through general taxation.”

    Some mistaken people might refer to what they are paying as road tax when what they are paying is VED. Do they pay in pounds, shillings and pence?

    It's getting towards time to replace my car, does anyone have any recommendations for hybrid self-charging 4x4? Currently have diesel Hyundai Santa Fe, which is an option, but might go cheaper and smaller this time.

    Here's a couple of examples.

    The company the wives works for is going green. Runs a 2.0 turbo diesel insignia, passat, skoda superb level type company car, doesn't do as many miles as others so planned to keep it an extra year past the standard 4 year change plan and budgeted approx £45,000.
    Has to change now to plug in hybrid with a short list of approved vehicles to chose from, ended up with an audi Q5 at about £65,000.
    It was fully charged on collection and managed about 30km on electric, not been charged since. The 2 liter diesels were about 4.5liter for 100km (60mpg) Q5 2.0 petrol doing about 9liter per 100km (30mpg)
    Ticks a green box though.

    A friend has got a new Toyota Yaris hybrid thing that sorts itself out, never needs plugging in averaging 70mpg on a mix of city and motorway driving.

    I've got a BMW X3 hybrid. Perfect size and very comfy. Approx 40 miles elec range. Self charges on the road and also plug in.

    Howden? Must be at least 20 miles from Hull, unless it's grown in the last 40 years.
