I promised myself not to get involved in political chat...but I am weak. Thatcher was elected because the country was f..ked. The Labour Party at the time was not fit for purpose. Thatcher was an evil bitch who basically decided certain areas of the UK were dispensable in order to pursue her policies. I saw what she did to my family ( all miners) I for one will never forget what they did to the north east.
Sadly now, the Labour Party ( for which I have voted all my life) has reneged on promises made to the electorate during the election. The Tories are at a point of extinction which leaves a clear pathway for Farage and his racist, clan to occupy power, unless Labour get their s hit together and start governing with promises made and promises kept they will follow the tories into the wilderness
Finally..as for " get on your bike" I did that, to me if there is no work where you are, go to a place where is work. No point in staying where you are bitching and moaning as this will achieve nothing other than making you poorer and more unemployable..I think when people make their peace with the fact politicians couldn't give a flying f uck about working people the easier their life will be. You have to look after yourself and family...nobody else will

If I was them I’d be waiting until May has gone. They have a lot of **** to sort out as a hangover from the previous lot. Let her do it, let Starmer take the hits and change both. The thing I’d do now is get rid of McSweeney.

One thing I can’t remember about Thatcher getting in was did she mention shutting all the pits before the elections?

I can actually remember a senior tory proclaiming that digging coal out of the ground in the UK was far more expensive that importing from other countries...the writing was on the wall

To be fair it probably was, it wouldn’t be that way now though.

Think it was more some of the left unions wanted to still run the country and as a saying off here went in throwing fists right left and centre, unfortunately a lot of collateral occurred. She probably would of still closed the mines as she was a strong believer in climate change as a scientist. Would the left back her if she said she was closing them down to save the planet as the left now believe.

No idea! It's hard as I don't like any of them and don't think any of them represent me.

No turning the clock back now... Thatcher's legacy was turning the UK from a manufacturing powerhouse ( admittedly mismanaged powerhouse) into a country full of call centres...and other low paid service industries. Very sad

In later years I had the feeling it was maybe better using other countries coal and keeping ours in reserve incase it was needed for the future.
    Nows the time?

He’s like the Dominic Cummings of this government. He’s the reason they’ve lurched to the right and gone all donor focused.
There’s a video on him here

I’d argue politicians need more advice and less Ideology but not from ‘campaign guru’s. If campaign funds were limited and donations controlled we’d probably lose shysters people like him and Cummings who spend all their time doing popularity surveys. .

I know who I won’t vote for, no idea who I will vote for. I generally tactically vote out the biggest threat. I hope the biggest threat to Reform is Labour. It means we’ll have had a few better years.

Problem is labour seems to want to go more left where majority of people just want a centre to centre right party

I worry a bit about her wellbeing. She looks really nervous and on the verge of upset a lot of the time. Despite her budget, and the manner in which she delivered it, I felt sorry for her as she sat there being hammered away at by Badenoch. She looked on the verge of tears to me.

I saw a clip on the news where she didnt know how the ev tax per mile would work on new cars. It was embarassing that she didnt know but I thought again she looked a beaten lady.

Easy for us, in our daft little forum, to lambast politicians. I think Reeves is making a right horlicks of the economy. But she is no doubt just a normal human being and I hope the job isnt making her poorly in any way.
