The impression I get is that only Charlton and football are subjects that are wanted on this forum now. Even though that was only briefly 'official' policy. Trouble us, this forum isn't like CL or even ITTV. We don't have 300 active posters like CL, or even about 40, like Reams' creation. There are ten or eleven of us. And none of us are obsessive Charlton fans with massive knowledge an ITK network of contacts. You need at least two or three members of that kind to sustain a forum with CAFC and football as the only subjects. So aside from match days, there is precious little that we can usefully talk about. Moaning about the shortcomings of various members of the squad doesn't go very far. Seems to me now that even though non Charlton / non football subjects are no longer prohibited, nobody wants to discus them anymore. Members are aware they are not really wanted. Some members are ignoring each other - something we never used to have here as far as I know. At least one has left, and at least one other has decided not to post much anymore. While the member who was determined to 'make Not606 Charlton great again' has now decided to post in only about three threads. Sorry, but I don't see how greatness for this community can ever be achieved by doing that. Perhaps Not606 Charlton was not actually broken, and did not need to be fixed. Anyone who believes this forum is now better than it was a month or two ago, please feel free to debate the point with me.
There is nothing stopping you & others posting on the dozens of non football threads @lardiman none of them are locked & are sitting there waiting for you. Go for it. I suspect what you and certain others really mean is old Royston isn’t going to spice things up by posting on them again, thus depriving you & certain others of entertainment & arguments.
There certainly is something stopping me. When I took moderating action by locking one thread - not actually deleting anything - you ripped me to pieces. I did not edit or delete one word of what you said about me. Everybody saw it. When I posted one short message critical of the new moderator - one post, not a week long campaign of abuse or a dedicated thread complete with a poll calling for him to step down - my message was deleted within one minute of me posting it. Nobody saw it, except the person who deleted it. There's no point me repeating what I posted. It will be deleted again. Indeed I fully expect this post to be deleted as well. You now have what you wanted. A) rid of my dreadful influence over this forum. B) anything I post which is deemed disruptive will be deleted. Something which apparently goes for everyone else as well. Have those changes have made this a better community? Are members now enjoying it more, knowing now that - just like on ITTV - if they say the wrong thing it will disappear? The answer speaks for itself.
I'm glad you think it's funny. Still, never mind. These last few messages will soon disappear. In the circumstances the whole issue is a moot point. I'll be considering my options.
I’m just a humble, football -focused minion on this forum @lardiman I am sorry to hear you apparently accusing our new Moderator @Dick Plumb1 of deleting your posts, something you are well familiar with from your own stint as Mod. Anyway …I am continuing my avoidance of arguments on here, so I’ll leave you to sort out your “options” with Dicky. We both agree that our regulars only want to read about football, not trivia.
I have deleted one of your posts. That is all I have deleted since I became the moderator. These posts will not be deleted. But I just think that it is rather unedifying that they appeared in the first place. I have tried to steer this forum back to a football forum. But a few posters didn’t want that I am not telling posters where to post. If someone wants to post only in the football threads it is up to them. If posters want to post in other threads that is also up to them. It seems I can’t do anything right. I will also be considering my options as I don’t need this kind of hassle.
I’m very content with the way @Dick Plumb1 is moderating this forum. We have some excellent posters on here, and a handful of duds. Let’s remind everyone of our excellent ones. @Ponders Revisited @PuttersCAFC @The Pub Landlord @Squareball @Typical part 2 @CarrianCarcuss @TwoWrights @FormerlyOzAddick @Watameire Even Lardi has his moments when he focuses on football. With such a strong first team of posters, we can more than handle the odd scrubber.
As people feel that they don’t want me as the Moderator I will give them their wishes.I must admit I am very disappointed with a couple of posters attitudes. Go find yourself another scapegoat. I feel there is a gang of three on here who have made it impossible for me from the get go. Well congratulations you have won, you must be very proud of yourself.
This forum was on its arse for much of the last year until you stepped in. Only 4 regular posters, one posting nonsense about all & sundry, and Midge & Mungo with their hilarious banter.
* Sniff, sniff, I haven't being so touched since I met Jimmy Savile. For what it's worth, I survived a RTA where one in four don't make it to the hospital alive, so if crap comes along deal with it and move on. Enjoy every day, I do.
Emotions are running high again and I really don't understand why. I have never met @lardiman but I have exchanged PMs with him in the distant past and found him perfectly civil and reasonable. Likewise I have exchanged PMs with the enfants terrible, Sheriff and Mental Elf, and found them equally civil and reasonable. I really can't understand why people can't rub along with good-humoured disagreement. @Dick Plumb1 should remain as moderator, I can't think of anyone who could do it better. Please just thicken your skins everyone and stop taking everything personally and to heart. People can call me anything they want, if it's witty I will share it with my friends. There's the difference ....
