Lineup looked alright and then Slot only made two subs, one of which was Chiesa for Konate. Their collapse is just bizarre.
Totally agree , a much better performance tonight albeit some poor defending. Romero not having his best night. It’s weird not having Palinha has probably helped in our attacking transitions but we’ve also missed his tackling and closing down on the edge of our box. Muani has looked very good and he’s certainly a player I’d love us to sign permanently. Richy was excellent first half but ran out of steam second half. Still liking Grays composure and ability on the ball and a huge shoutout to Porro who I think has been outstanding this evening. MASSIVE game coming up against Fulham we have just got to improve this dreadful home form. For Frank if we don’t win the pressure will be immense and it could be a bit toxic at the lane Saturday.
Worrying how good Arsenal are looking at the moment. I don't feel quite as sick about the weekend. They've completely dismantled Bayern.
I think RE Palhinha it’s just basically the case of we didn’t play him and Bentancur. I don’t know why Bentancur’s role has changed, maybe it’s post-ACL issues but he was never an outright DM when we signed him from Juve. He was a box to box player and if we played him like we did under Conte then a Palhinha x Bentancur partnership would likely be great. But having him basically mimic Palhinha ****s any potential control or threat we have from midfield. I’m hoping Frank can see what we all see though, against Fulham it has to be Palhinha at the base, Sarr box to box and Bergvall as the 10/ creator.
seriously worrying times. They’re gonna walk the PL at this rate. Not only are they good, but all the competition is below par. As for the CL, they could end up doing the double if they can beat Bayern that easily. I’d fancy them to beat that PSG side we played tonight.
I wonder why random ****ers keep attacking Simons? He was only on the pitch for a few minutes tonight, so I can't think he had time to annoy anyone.
Agreed! He far too often fails to control himself and loses his head, which you shouldn't xoect from a seasoned WC winning defender. He's a good player when things are going well for him but he's no leader.
Despite the loss, it was a much improved performance from spurs. If we could replicate this in the PL, will win more games. No more 5 at the back with 2 DMs! we really do need to see more of bergvall and gray.
They’re winning the league. I’m resigned to that and I feel sick. I just hope Paris or someone stops them from adding a European trophy, it’s the one thing we have over them! And them winning a CL would eclipse our ELs too.
Maybe if we can keep more than one striker fit, two up top might be a way to go while we have no left winger. Has to have Udogie on the left though to provide the width. Richarlison seemed to do better in a two but I think it would suit Solanke massively paired with RKM. May see us get more out of Tel as well if played as a second striker.
Only -2 on the GD, so job done for me. The team has to now go out and get a big win against Prague, and we can see where the squad and CL table is for the final two ties after FA cup R3.
I'll get pelters for saying it and I've said it before. Yes it would hurt if they win the league, but it would also bring a shred of comfort that it is possible to do it without either cheating (City, Chelsea) or being an exponentially bigger club than us (Liverpool). Arsenal are the next step above us financially so we're not a million miles apart. The date is Nov 20th 2019. We have just sacked Poch and announced the Grumpy One as his successor. This triggers what resembles a 6-year long (and countin) Benny Hill sketch that sees zero consistency, zero stability and a squad getting steadily weaker, corresponding to steadily lower league positions. Nine days later, Arsenal sack Good Ebening and replace him with Arteta. This triggers a bloody-minded, stubborn project to ignore all pressure and back the manager in the face of huge backlash from the fans. While we were laughing at the 24-carat meltdowns on AFTV and while the team was finishing 8th, 8th and 5th with no trophies to show for it, Arteta was given Saliba, Gabriel and Odegaard as he quietly went about building a squad that would take some time to mature. It seems that time has now come. Arsenal winning the league should be the clearest possible message to our new Board of Directors signposting exactly what we need to do to achieve the same thing in the next 5-6 years.
Zero ****ing comfort with them winning anything. Clubs and boards are different too so I don’t think it’s a case of just looking to copy or take inspiration from them. Spending well is generally the best means to success, that can be done inside 1-2 windows or 5-6, the latter is what Arsenal have done. We’ve held ourselves back massively by largely spending horrifically over a similar period but just 2-3 signings can immediately change a club’s outlook. A top class LW alone could make a huge difference to us, let alone a couple other spots.
It's mostly about patience. We've tried short-cut after short-cut, appointing managers supposedly built to navigate short-cuts, and it hasn't paid off because as Chelsea have shown, you can throw half a billion a year at a short-cut, it still might not work. Once you're in the top 10 wealthiest clubs in the entire world, football really shouldn't be rocket science. We've been held back by six years of maddeningly short-sighted decisions.
