My daughter loved that it was two women in the lead role on each side and a woman speaker telling the men to shut up!

Rough old budget that for working folk. Income tax, NI on pensions plus other smaller measures taking money away. Record tax on its way in this parliament.

I hope they spend it well.

Reeves had the look of someone playing their last card. Not sure she will last a whole lot longer tbh. In her press conference she misquoted her parties manifesto promise on no tax increases. Hopefully just knackered after the big day and OBR ballsing up. Would love to know how that happened mind - some people have ballsed up big time there.

There’s a few short sighted people on here. Poverty causes poor social, health educational and economic outcomes. Saying should this and should that is a waste of breath. People who suffer less, develop more and cost the purse less. It’s right for humanity and right for the economy. There’s a lot wrong with the economy but easing the struggle for the most needy isn’t one of them.

Probably an IT cock up I reckon. Somebody set the wrong time for auto publish or some such thing. Embargoed info can be sat for days waiting for the publish date. Just takes a bad IT system to allow it out early.

Next year probably not too bad for many. A lot of the tax increases come later. Spend comes sooner though so I suspect borrowing will increase short term.

The tax thresholds are likely to be a problem for a lot of folk. Reading that the state pension could be more than lowest tax threshold by the time it kicks in. 18 year olds on min wage could also start paying tax too. It doesnt seem right in some cases but tough times and all that.

The Economist have called it a budget for the party not the country. Seems a bit harsh but I do think more is needed and this doesnt offer much in terms of growing the economy. Tax and Spend is the accusation Labour often have to fend off, not sure this does enough. I have been reading about a forecast slow down in AI adoption today. It is an area we as a country are keen on to power growth.

I wouldnt want to try and plot a budget. Never going to please everyone. Folk will have their own view on fairness of this one, or the long term impact good or bad.

A possibility of course.... a bit like the CCTV had a glitch and guards were called away when Epstein killed himself?
