But he is being slaughtered in The Guardian and the Mirror. I think the rest of the press will start to turn if more stuff comes out. Just get the sense that the tide is starting to turn against populist politics. The orange man baby is getting caught up with the Epstein business , a poorly performing economy and questions about his sanity. I can see Farage suffering some of the blow back.

Is Farage really tied up with Bannon ? Was not aware of that but I think the Russian money story will grow.

The Orange man situation in the US is much different. He has taken over an existing party so more akin to the centrists that took over Labour and the Tories resulting in their collapses now! Populists in Europe are much different and are parties that are replacing the "old parties," even Macron to a point although his rise was more a time/place thing of the old parties in France being really bad and corrupt, financial crash and the French system's setup meaning he got good numbers just for being the option to beat FN/Le Pen!

Most of Europe is the same. New/outsider parties challenging the old guard!

At the end of the day not that much has changed in the US other than the leaderships of the existing parties! Both the Republicans (MAGA) and the Democrats "shining lights" are opposite ends of the batshit crazy gauge! But at least AOC is hot so if she gets the nod in the Dems we can fnar fnar a bit!

"The National Covid Inquiry has this week concluded what many of us already knew, that the UK’s response to Covid was ‘too little, too late.’ Their report is clear that more decisive action could have saved more than 20,000 lives. It is a damning indictment of Boris Johnson and his government. He should never return to political life.

In more inspiring news, last week the UK government announced that The National Covid Memorial Wall - the half kilometre long, hand-painted memorial to those who died from Covid in the UK - which we created and installed with Covid 19 Bereaved Families for Justice is to be officially protected and made a permanent national memorial.

Since its installation in 2021, the wall has been maintained and updated by The Friends of the Wall, a group of bereaved families and friends. They will now work alongside government and local partners to protect the wall. If you want to read the story of how the wall came about you can read it here.

When you are next in London, we encourage you to walk the full length of the memorial, which is located on London’s south bank, between Westminster Bridge and Lambeth Bridge. Facing the houses of Parliament, it will now serve our country as a beautiful memorial to those we lost, and a salutary reminder of the dangers of electing arrogant, complacent and incompetent leaders."

Only 2 papers (Guardian & Daily Mirror) decided the sentencing of ex-Reform politician Nathan Gill to 10.5 years in prison for accepting Russian bribes, warranted front page coverage

The Telegraph, Independent, Daily Express, Daily Mail, The Times, FT, & The Sun all ignored

    Ronaldo to a tee.
"And so here we have it, the ultimate in grotesque sporting spectacles. For Ronaldo, this represents a convincing nadir, confirmation of the moral emptiness of his entire schlocky persona."
"Schlocky" is an informal adjective used to describe something that is cheap, of poor quality, or of low value. It can also imply something that is tasteless, tacky, or shoddy.

I used to feel the same about Ronaldo until I found out how much he did for charity.

What do you consider "batshit crazy" about AOC and the left leaning wing of the Democrats?

So the "patriots" protesters outside Highfield Hotel are showing their true bigoted colours with a homophobic God hates ***s neon sign.
It kind of detracts from their argument that it is all about "the boats".

Liz Truss briefly spiked the cost of government borrowing. This government seeks to remove a fundamental, centuries-old right, which is a powerful method of protecting people against against the power of the state. To suggest those two things are even remotely comparable is just mind-blowingly stupid.

You didn't excuse Johnson's handling of the pandemic, the national self harm of his brexshit or the damage done by years of tory austerity. Truss tanked the economy for ****s sake.

What the **** is this new electric car tax? Yes, that's really going to persuade people to be more eco-friendly isn't it? Charging EV drivers by mileage seems completely bizarre to me.

Also, Reeves and Labour tore into the Tories for freezing tax thresholds. Now they're freezing them for 3 more years. Hypocrites.

I agree. As an electric car user, I was waiting for the government to come for me.

Because of the electricity tariffs, my car cost around 0.5p/mile, sometimes free or negative (I am on octopus agile so get plunge pricing sometimes - eg negative energy costs), but even without the plunge pricing, the most I have paid to fill up (at home) is 210 miles for £1 of electricity. My argument is that the tax on fossil fuel is for the environment impact, not the roads; that is road tax, which we now pay. To add a complex cost per mile is just ridiculous and a realisation that they cant tax me at the pump as I share the pump with the rest of my household electricity.

I'm no expert on electric cars but surely the incentive is that once you've bought the car they're cheap to run and maintain? As they are expensive to buy in the first place the government must provide incentives to actually own one.

They are expensive, but in fairness no more than the equivalent ICE car. Got a Mini Cooper SE and it is comparable with a petrol one. Goes like a rocket though, and is totally silent on the motorway.

There were incentives when we first got one - we got our charger for £300 and the Government paid I think £600. In fairness, by having a smart tariff, my whole house benefits on the cheap rates, so I can heat the hot tub, put the immersion heater on and the oven on, all whilst charging the car on negative cost energy sometimes :)
