It does seem like racism is the sun and we're all revolving around it sometimes, like the worst thing to be, worse than a child predator or murderer, is the man who said the naughty words towards brown people. Racism is bad, we should shun it, appeal against it when we hear it, but ultimately it is what it is, it certainly isn't the worst of all crimes.

Also, these elites, these billionaires, they're the ones bringing in these people to undercut the wages of the indigenous working class, the Labour party of old understood this and were sufficiently against it, as was Bernie Sanders in America for example.

There you go again anyone not far left are far right Farage supporters, I always vote and look at what party I disagree with the least, at the moment yes Reform are the best of the worst, if labour get rid of the left extremists I will vote for them ,will decide when election occurs which party i will vote for, not blinkered like some.

Fair enough mate and I fully understand we need robust immigration. However, it must be based on the economic needs and public service demands of the country not on racism.

I was at St James and witnessed the appalling abuse of Gary Bennett and Howard Gayle. I’m not having a go at the mags here as it was in society but we do not want to go back to them days.

Farage has made racism acceptable again in this country and for that he needs calling out.

As Sunderland supporters (I would suspect most of us are) with our team made up of a number of very talented black players we should be doing more than most to stamp it out.

The support (or shall we say soft support) for racist politicians needs calling out before we even mention Russian money that is harming our national security interests.

Vic I apologised to you for upsetting you. Holding a grudge is not necessary eh?

For the record I don’t know what the poster is on about but calling me obsessed then trolling me is rather odd behavior and again for the record I have never been a Labour Party member and have voted Green and liberal in the past but I will call out racist politicians. If that makes me a Labour lovie in his eyes I think it’s them that has an issue. You talk a lot of sense on footy threads by the way :)

Enjoy the rest of your day.

I want to interrogate this a little bit, because I have found some left leaning people to use this as a bit of a crutch that, in my experience, tends to collapse under certain scrutiny.

This is a country not a dow jones stock exchange board, numbers can go up and down, there are successful countries that exist right now that have come from the absolute depths of despair in only a few decades. The lesson here is that economics are important but not worth dying for, you can always change the economy, If we fundamentally change the country, there is no coming back from that (there is, but that is so dark, you don't want to go there) so it is always worth thinking about the economy as a product of the people rather than the people being units within the economy.

Another thing, if you're on the left, presumably you have ideas about capitalism and who owns the means of production, these ideas are the antithesis of economic unit building and the global market, and more to do with want and need, and being self sufficient. Close that loop for me, are you not an economic leftist?

Listen marra, you’re not capable of upsetting me,don’t think you are so high and mighty, you just can’t help yourself by irritating people constantly without evidence, and by the way Farage is no where near being Prime Minister ffs,get him out of your head if it’s possible and concentrate on the current government with a big autumn statement tomorrow

The anti-immigrant footy supporters amuse me. They're all stop the boats and send em back during the week, then on a weekend they pay money to cheer on a group of immigrants.

Their status doesn't make them immune from abuse. My friend sometimes gets told to go home even though she married an Englishman and has lived here for about 20 years now so here is her home.

You should be careful with this critique, there is strong critique from the online far-right about the "worship of black sportsman by the gammon", and it is growing, perhaps the chips will not fall on the side you're expecting.

    Example:

I agree with most of what you say the only thing I would add due partly to Brexit we now have record immigration that this government did not create but now has to solve. The man mostly responsible for Brexit and subsequent record immigration some now think can solve the immigration issue. Madness is making the mistake again and following this racist grifter. He is the problem not the solution.

As we see with his sympathisers on here the man has created a cult like Trump in the US and whatever the facts they won’t have a word said against him.

Sadly this is where racism is becoming acceptable again and there has been occasional issues at the SOL sadly over the years.

I think we all want robust immigration based on fairness and the needs of the country. I recognise the genuine concerns of those right leaning friends on here and share some of their concerns. However racism is not acceptable and as we have seen from press reports today it as the very heart of the Reform Party.

I feel sorry for the community nurses. They do a great job looking after people in their homes which eases the burden on other NHS services so they can see people who need to be treated in a hospital or GP surgery. It's a shame they are being intimidated.
