If Tonda continuous his impressive start he's going to get the attention from other teams, too; our hand may be forced.

Very telling hearing Jander saying that now the players all know exactly what they're meant to be doing and what their roles are. That's essentially all a professional football player needs, and it's showing. We might not win tomorrow (though I really hope we do, I hate Leicester), we might even lose, but as long as there's clear signs of that progression, I'm on the Hungry Eyes Bus.

Credit to Tonda - he had Jones' number tactically this game. Whilst you can write off his first two wins for whatever reason, you could see clear tactics and patterns in play, and the players thrived under it, and we haven't seen that all season.

I feel like he's a talented manager whether he's the right man for the job right now or not. It would be a shame to see him go elsewhere if we get someone else in or sack him after a poor run, and he becomes great. Just poor timing with Still making a hash of it far more than anyone anticipated.

Was very much in the “don’t appoint someone so inexperienced” camp, but no one can deny he’s made a huge impact.

As many have already said, it’s a very strange situation, entirely of SR’s own making.

Hard to argue that he doesn’t deserve some more time, at least as interim though. If he beats Leicester as well then.. yea we may have found a gem.

Problem with such an inexperienced guy is.. how will he handle transfers? Pre-season?

Yeah this is kind of where I am. I didn't/don't think he should be a candidate for the job but then if he beats Leicester he's put 12pts on the table from 4 games... when we were only on 12pts from the first 13 games

It kind of becomes impossible to ignore at some point. You just have to make sure the structure around him supports him enough (this is where I struggle to trust SR) and you have a Plan B in the wings if it all goes a bit pear-shaped in a month or two

Yep. I was 100% against making Tonda the next manager before the Charlton game. One game doesn't swing it completely the other way but what happened in the first half was so good that if we can produce good performances against Leicester and Millwall and get 3 or 4 points from those games I would be more than happy to see him appointed until the end of the season. The players have clearly responded to his methods and Jander's comment that everyone knows exactly what they are supposed to be doing is extremely telling.

I'm not convinced that waiting puts in anything of a worse situation
Is there a nailed-on good appointment out there? I doubt it
Would we be able to get such a guy when we are mid to lower Championship? Unlikely
Are SR & Tonda happy to continue as is for the time being with the door back to the U21s remaining open if needed, and Adam getting good experience
If so, nothing to lose. Whatever, it would be a mistake to lose Tonda, he's proved he has great promise

Just watched presser, he cracks me up, so thoughtful, quiet and considered. All his answers were minimalist and spot-on

So many improvements in that Charlton game compared with any of the Still games, that he must get some credit for

    Including ...
The determination of Manning to beat 2 defenders for the 1st goal, and Azaz for the 4th
The role for Adarma as a No9, who was actually playing as a No10 much of the game - it worked!!!
The overlaps of the midfielders to make that work
The movement and ability to break the lines
The back 3 working far better than before
    - Whenever Charlton attacked from the wings, the L or R CB was always positioned perfectly to cut out the cross across the 6yd box, while the other two were playing as 2 CBs
Control of the 2nd half much better than previously
Decisions on when and where to hit the ball when the CBs got pressed

    I could go on ...

Even if we beat Leicester I still see no reason to change anything for the time being. Keep him as interim and see how we go.

It is still very early days and basically one fantastic performance but he obviously has something about him to turn it around against the odds.
Let him continue as interim for now and see how far it takes us. I'd like to see how he reacts in adversity, after all he is basically learning on the job still.
Just read what DTLW wrote, I agree that we should have a back up plan in case it goes tits up.

Spors has already said that Tonda was seen as a future manager and is reported to favour a replacement for Still from Germany. Other than his opportunity has come earlier than expected, Tonda is what SR are looking for. I think he is now their preferred candidate and as long as we don't lose the next two they'll give him the job. To be honest, if we do get decent results and/or respectable performances it would be hard to argue against it. How much better could an experienced manager do?

I think the argument isn’t that someone with more experience could be doing better (can’t improve results wise on what Tonda has done) but more when we lose a game or two people would have more confidence in an experienced manager than Tonda to cope.

ultimately nobody knows how Tonda will react when we lose a couple in a row, so it’s a bit of a redundant argument if SR think he has the tools to cope.

Something we will see immediately is how some of the players react to Downes being dropped for a 20 year old making his first start. I think Still dropping some senior players after the Hull game was the beginning of the end for him, so interested to see how certain players react with Downes being dropped.

Wasn't it said that Downes - presumably because of his sick tum tum - was being saved for Tuesday night?

I'm going to whisper it very quietly, and please keep this between us.

But the change in dynamic that I'm seeing reminds me a little bit of when Poch came in...(and nobody wanted him initially either).

I thought he came across much better in this presser compared to previous. Looking back i think he was extremely nervous before.

I don't disagree and I would add another scenario. If we got into the playoffs how would Tonda cope with the almost unique tactical and mental pressure they produce. Whereas someone like Farke for example has seen it all and he may be available soon. But even he lost the playoff with us and Leeds had been better than us for most of that season. Even experienced managers don't deal with pressure situations at times.

I'm not in the wholehearted "Tonda in" gang (I'm not sure anyone on here is) but I'm definitely not against it either.
