... 'Toxic and chaotic' culture at the heart of government with thousands dying needlessly. The bad news is that no one will be surprised. .The good news is that quite a few millionaires made millions out of the dead and dying.
Aye let the bodies pile high in the streets iirc. Bonko invented the vaccine though, so it wasn't all bad
Pretty sure the elite will learn to hide the fact they are making money off the back of a public crisis. Other than that, probably not much.
I know it's not as severe as all the people who lost loved ones, but I was annoyed by the furlough system. Furlough was optional for employers to claim and pay. The main company I was working for decided not to bother claiming it. I was one of the shielding group as I'm severely immunocompromised. I was stuck with nothing as the Government said I wasn't entitled to claim benefits for shielding as I was entitled to furlough. My employer said they were not claiming furlough and told me to claim benefits. I ended up with no money coming in and built up credit card debit just buying the basics like food and paying bills until it was safe for me to go back to work. I do think furlough should have been mandatory for employers to pay to shielding people, or some other form of benefit payment to cover living costs should have been paid.
As an Island and the resources the UK has at its disposal we should have had the best covid numbers in the world. When it became clear what was happening the borders should have been shut down...full stop, as it was in Australia and New Zealand. Instead, planes where still landing from China. Thousands and Thousands of people died needlessly because of the misguided policies by Bojo and his cronies. Not to mention the millions made by tories for PPE etc etc
If a pensioner with an income of over £35k dies it’s because of stupor cold. There would have to be a lot of stupid pensioners to get anywhere near the Tories figures. Temind me who brought in the WFA in the first place?
we all know BoJo an co were shocking and slow to react, so many lives could have been saved if it wasnt for them
I think the biggest thing was not shutting the airport’s straight away but then a virus has to work its way through, maybe the same amount would have died but over a longer period.
But if as you say, airports closed, no Cheltenham or football matches against Italian teams ( covid hit Italy hard early). Then using the tests that were available, isolation for those with Covid. Social distancing for others. A vaccine came fairly quickly, so a lot of deaths and lockdowns could have been avoided. Much of these actions were suggested in a big review exercise carried out by the NHS, several years before Covid Including advice to have on hand a stock of PPE and the ability to produce more in the UK (worldwide demand in a pandemic ment competing with other countries). Hunt the health secretary at the time turned down gaving stocks of PPE on cost grounds. This NHS report was widely published in academic journals and other countries took note, we didn't! Bonko of all the recent PMs was probably the worst person to have in charge of a pandemic.
The surprise for me at the time was how we couldn't close our borders earlier to flights and ferries or have greater controls on entry points because we are an island. No surprise there was chaos and self interest and arrogance given that Tory crew but I'm not sure Labour would have been better.
It may have mutated down to being less virulent over time by the time it hit the main populace but as soon as it was clear kids were near enough immune we could have protected the older generation and vulnerable by targeted lockdowns on the populace. Has the care home issues of hoying older, ill patients into care homes to make it run riot covered in the report?
