    • Ian Wright has defended England international Jude Bellingham on The Overlap podcast following media criticism over his perceived reluctance to be substituted, and admitted he is “worried” for the midfielder.
    • Wright argued that the backlash against Bellingham is rooted in racism, suggesting his self-assured demeanour “frightens” some people, while claiming some are not “ready for a black superstar”.

Who else has mentioned colour when talking about Bellinghams world class skills?

I wasn't alive but I reckon Ali would have experienced plenty of racism! Bet plenty considered him "uppity" consdidering he reufused the draft, was a civil rights activist etc...and the time period and being in America who had segregation etc still. I'm sure Wright used the word uppity! Which I think is more an American thing?

I think Wright is trying to say if ya quiet and get on with it then you will be fine, if ya cocky and self assured the media will go town on you! Don't think its a race thing though? The media love to pull a celeb down, it sells! They have done it to plenty of white players aswell.

I absolutely hate iit when some people rush like hell to find their racism banner, and then can't wait to wave it about like some kind of loose cannon.

No matter of your colour, we proud indigenous Brits have always had a fair saying - 'If you're good enough, you're old enough'

And therefore, in some cases, some folk call it racism agaist the indigenous Brits....

While my first reaction is that this is ridiculous...

Given all the reaction to the poor lads who missed the penalties a few years back, it's safe to say there is a whole of of racism in the English footballing fanbase.

I think Jude makes himself quite difficult to like at times and I'm sure most of the people who dislike him don't really care about his race.

But I'm also pretty sure a whole lot do.
