Not sure what happened in the 1.20 at Plumpton. Half the field pulled up after a couple of furlongs. A chequered flag was being waved albeit not very vigorously and some chat between jockeys. Some explanations and bollockings to come no doubt!
Interesting race at Leicester in the 3yo fillies hurdle. Manganese taken out early on at a right bend and given a 150-1 price in running. However got up to do 1/4 favourite Trad Jazz. Good ride by Bass but perhaps Twiston-Davies might have given his mount a bit more welly coming up to the last. He seemed to lose momentum at a critical part of the race.
No I hadn't, just my view after watching a rerun of the race. Have read it now and not surprised they 'noted' his explanation. My view was obviously that he rode an ill judged race. I'd have said he made too much of his filly but that anyway he could have won the race if he'd kept her up to her work going into the last and immediately after it. He didn't. His explanation was that she was knackered because she'd used all her energy following the course of action he took: he said in avoiding interference. Personally I think that's debatable. I say that as an admirer of Twiston-Davies but on that occasion he wasn't at his best. What do you think?
I thought it was a poor ride, he clearly thought the horse would win easily and as such went very early to avoid the loose horse. I also think he looked after the horse and didn’t ask for maximum effort at the last two hurdles. I think David Bass caught him by surprise too, which was aided by Manganese’s attitude. As the second horse wears the Gredley silks I must also suggest that it’s perhaps not got the best mind for the jumps game and is perhaps a bit of a rascal, much like the one at Cheltenham on Sunday.
