So the SD who has hired and fired the last 2 Head Coaches is relieved of that job - thank god - and is replaced by a committee - recipe for disaster - with the ultimate decision resting with an american owner who knows as much about English football as I know about Japanese poetry. What could possibly go wrong!!
Yes I’ve been doing a quick scour of the dreaded X which has thrown up a few names, Phillippe Clement being one. Another being Willfried Nancy (MLS Columbus Crew Manager) he has been rumoured to have been in London for several interviews including Celtic. Hamarby manager - Kim Hellberg another rumoured to have been of interest to us Swansea and Middlesbrough, both have had the betting suspended in him. The below being mentioned without any real substance. Mark Fotherigham Brendan Rodgers John Terry Ole Gunnar Solksjaer Steven Gerrard Patrick Viera Michael Carrick - I think he has been ruled out
Here's an excerpt from a piece in the Glasgow press introducing Clement to Rangers fans, few of whom had even heard of him. “He is used to working with clubs where you need to perform, where there is pressure from the fans and media. He is capable of meeting those standards and capable of working under pressure. He's a massive, charismatic guy. When he walks into a room he’s got this presence because of his size. He came into the club and created this feeling of being a family. And he's somebody that likes to get everybody around him. That's one of the reasons we had success initially,” was how a source at Monaco described his impact in France. Another source used this example of Clement’s leadership under tricky circumstances: “He showed at Monaco when they were suffering, Philippe will make players believe they can do so much more than they have been. For a team in a crisis or a squad low on confidence, he can be decisive in these moments."
Great quote. If he is the choice, I think it’s a really interesting one - he has clear form for coming in and rapidly improving a team, plus he’s had reasonable success across Europe including the UK. I won’t hold my breath, but I think on paper I prefer him to JDT.
@1950canary you keep a track of the Belgian and French leagues don’t you? What’s your thoughts on Phillippe Clement?
His European record is good but he fared less well at Rangers, his only UK experience, which concerns me a bit, but otherwise he looks promising on paper. He had an impressive career as a player to command the respect of players but that is more difficult to predict. It's a wait and see situation for me but I'll hope for the best.
So Clement it is . Thank goodness for that a foreighner, i thought we would be saddled with one of those British losers
He did a decent job at Monaco but they are a wealthy club with high expectations so he got the sack in his second season when they only finished 6th. Has a reputation of getting the best out players but he will have a tough job whipping our lot into shape. An interesting, surprising and in my view, despite my disapproval of the appointment process, encouraging appointment. Who will he bring with him is the next question?
What we'll never know for sure is how many candidates turned us down. JDT's agent says that he was one: https://sportwitness.co.uk/agent-co...city-reason-for-canaries-rejection-explained/
