Jan transfer thread started, as a few have requested it, as normal the first post will be updated ongoing.
HDM on Gelhardt… Leeds United do have the option to recall him during a window early in the month, but as it stands, they have no plans to recall Gelhardt in January and believe the forward is best-suited to staying at the MKM Stadium through until the summer, when there will undoubtedly be a big decision to be made if he keeps up his impressive scoring run.
As we will still be on a one out and one in. Who goes to make room for any incoming signings? Palmer for a starter.
I could see the likes of Ipswich, Southampton sticking a bid in for Geldhart but other than that I see no reason why Leeds would recall him.
Palmer will be off, which will free up space for Zambrano to come in on loan. Though, all that being said, if he’s destined to turn up here in Summer anyway, do we leave him at Maribor until the Summer as nobody else is gonna come in for him anyway? We do have Matazo to come back as well. I am actually worried we will lose Gelhardt to a parachute payment club because if one of them puts an offer in, he’ll probably wanna go regardless of where we are in the table. It would be nice to think he would turn it all down to stay with us and then sign in Summer, fair play if he did but I just don’t think it’s realistic to assume he would and not plan for it as an outcome. I think if somebody wanted Famewo he’d also be allowed to go.
Zambrano will want to be playing in England in the run up to the World Cup you'd think, will give him a better chance of getting in Ecuador's squad.
I think we are absolutely certain to sign a keeper... or recall.. TLT doesnt seem to be pulling up stumps... not sure about Cartwright and I saw enough of the number 2 to know he was in one match..
Only played one game, apparently looked rusty and was taken off after an hour. Not a massive surprise really!
Yeah, I'm not sure Gelhardt will 'want' to go, as I'm sure there would have been some interest in the summer and he clearly only wanted to come here - and nothing since then would have changed his opinion of us as a preferred destination I wouldn't have thought. It would only be if someone came in to Leeds with a big offer and looked to boost his wage - which I highly doubt happening. The summer is a different story, particularly if Leeds are relegated.
If Southampton or Leicester bid for him in January, Leeds take the money and he gets a whacking great offer to go there. It's great that he enjoys it here with us and you'd hope that might sway his decision, but realistically, we know money talks. I imagine we threw a hell of a lot at McBurnie to stop Swansea and Sheffield United but we aren't in a position to do that with Joffey in January. Who knows, if we're still up in the higher echelons of the table come January, we might be able to convince him to help see it through so that we can sign him in the Summer. I've heard players say they love the club and that they're so grateful to the management, then seen them leave. We know KLP, Greaves and Bowen all loved it here and they all left. Tufan loved it here and couldn't speak highly enough of us, but was gone as soon as Trabzonspor called. Honeyman loved it, but was gone when Millwall came along.
It would need to be a really good move for him. Carry on anywhere close to this form for the rest of the season and a premier league move becomes increasingly more likely in the summer.
Gelhardt was desperate to come back to the club when it had just survived on GD and was in a complete mess financially, why would he now want to jump ship when we're in the top 6 and a potential for promotion? As I said, yes there is a scenario where Leeds get a good offer and they put pressure on him to go, but the chances of Leicester or Sheff Utd throwing big money at Leeds/Gelhardt is laughable and Southampton and Ipswich have plenty of attacking players already, they aren't going to bring him in. The bigger issue will be signing him permanently in the summer, as Leeds may well want to keep him if they go down, or a club like Wolves may try to get him. Tufan loved it here but jumped ship when Rosenior left, the same way that Seri did. KLP, Bowen and Greaves all left for PL opportunities. I don't think that's the same at all.
Wolves could be one to watch for. No idea what they have for the right wing or supporting forward roles but would be a shrewd buy for a club destined for relegation and the definite half a season of premier league football would be a good opportunity for Geldhart himself.
Yeah that's a fair point, they may try to get a jump and bring him in, although I suspect they will panic a bit and try to bring in players to stay up rather than forward plan and admit defeat. Could certainly be one to watch from that perspective. But ultimately the lure of PL football is certainly the only scenario I see him leaving in Jan.
