Are magistrates allowed to give custodial sentence in the UK now? Thought she'd have been up in front of a judge in a higher court for a violent offence like that... If the case wasn't passed over to the crown court, it's a sign that the courts can't cope with the workload... Blame the Tories for cutting the public judiciary system to the bone and labour for not pumping money in.

Anyone assaulting health or emergency workers should automatically get a prison sentence. You can’t blame the Tories for everything. Yes, that's correct. We only started monitoring the weather in 1925 as a response to difficulty planning assaults in WWI. Before then nobody had thought to record any weather events whatsoever and as there are absolutely no proxies to determine historical atmospheric variations, everything before 1925 is a complete mystery.
