Rob Butler reporting that both Russell Martin and Will Still are not in the running to be our next Head Coach.

JDT and Gary O'Neil still in the frame among a couple of other unnamed candidates.

I would go for Gary O’Neil, former NCFC player who knows what it’s like to gain promotion from Championship to EPL.

I found this paragraph on the PinkUn a bit shocking…
“…currently only seven managers in the Championship were in the same job this time last year. Of those, three earned promotion from League One last term, one came tumbling down from the Premier League, and Chris Wilder only recently returned to Sheffield United…”
Which would mean only 2 managers that were in the championship last season are still in the same job!

And the two leading sides in the EPL - Arsenal and Man City - have had the same Manager for years. Patience can be a virtue as long as progress is being made,

    The latest situation:

"Former Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson and ex-Norwich midfielder Gary O'Neil remain in contention alongside other unknown coaches, although sacked Southampton chief Will Still is not, despite having been included in those early interviews. Reported Swansea target Kim Hellberg has been tracked tentatively by the club's recruitment team ahead of previous appointments, but has not been spoken to at any point as a prospective replacement for Liam Manning, despite speculation suggesting Championship interest away from south Wales.

Knapper is likely to give Norfolk Holdings a recommendation for his preferred candidate before they conduct the final discussions, with no offer made until after then. Terms, including contract length, wage and backroom staff, will be discussed with those interviewed by the owners before a final decision is made. City remain confident that their new head coach will be in charge before next Saturday's trip to face Birmingham at St Andrew's. They're keen to give them as long as possible to prepare the squad for that game, with immediate results essential as they languish in the Championship relegation zone. Those involved in the process insist, however, that it is being conducted with the long term in mind rather than simply a quick fix to alleviate their immediate problems."

What a load of waffling bol**cks! ' conducted with the long term in mind ' - yeah like Smith, Wagner, Thorup and Manning!! Thorup was supposed to be a 3 year transition plan and lasted less than a season after performances dipped. To me it reads that they have a shortlist of 3 or 4 and will go for the cheapest - not the best - option in the full knowledge that whoever gets the job will be sacked if we go down.

The odds are shortening for JDT:

I thought they were shortening? I just don't trust our owner or any other American businessman apart from Bill Gates. I know how they work.

Yes, they are lengthening - I'm not a betting man (corrected now). It's hard to know about the 'unknown' candidates though.

The best manager could end up being the cheapest come the end of the season if they keep us in the championship

Latest from the Pinkun (2.11pm today):

"A selection of leading options have been interviewed by a group including majority shareholder Mark Attanasio, who has taken a more hands-on approach after accepting sporting director Ben Knapper's recommendation of Liam Manning in the summer. Some of those expected to speak to the owners are still finalising provisional terms before doing so, with Knapper leading the overall process as he sifts through a list of coaches interviewed in this week's initial stage, held in London with colleagues Neil Adams, Lee Dunn and representatives from src ftbl. City are keen to give the new boss as long as possible to prepare their players for next weekend's meeting with Birmingham at St. Andrew's, although an appointment in the next 36 hours is now seen as highly unlikely behind the scenes at Colney.

Attanasio's involvement marks a step forward in the process, however, his discussions with potential new employees taking place online from his base in the United States. Former Norwich midfielder Gary O'Neil is known to be one of the coaches still in contention, having impressed in his initial interview. O'Neil also came close to the job five months ago before being beaten to it by Manning. Ex-Blackburn and Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson also remains in the running, while other unknown coaches are being assessed by Knapper and Attanasio."

I read that as “after accepting sporting director Ben Knapper’s resignation” the first time
