Expect lots of player interviews coming up about how they're enjoying training under Tonda and how things are all coming together. Totally predictable
It is a year shorter timeline as in 2027/8 Administration means SR leave then not the following year.
as long as the “racking up penalty points” ended up with dropping into the national league this would be glorious
If he gets 5/6 points from the next 3 games on top of the 6 from the last 2 I think they'll give it to him to at least the end of the season unless someone stand out appears on the market. If he gets us winning consistently then he's going to be in the mix for the decision just by virtue that he's got the same group of players scoring and winning* * 2 games and counting
Right though wasn’t I? Besides Still had plenty of games under his belt in France. Tonda has literally only taken charge of 2 games at senior level.
The big question to ask is would Tonda be given a chance to be a manager at any other Championship club on his current CV? Absolutely not. This is SR again trying to appoint on the cheap. As soon as he is confirmed, watch our players down tools again.
Players don’t want to down tools though. Not an entire squad. Players want to win and be successful. They wouldn’t endorse someone who they have no confidence in.
It's just a crazy risk at this point and just wasting time until we actually get a suitable experienced manager. I think the 4 wins in 50 games has beaten some fans down and a couple of wins (against poor opposition) has changed their perception. I thought that Pellegrino and Still were both gambles but this is another level.
I don't think I have seen a single fan say they would hire him off the back of those two wins. Some, like myself, are saying if we keep winning and also start to play well, then we could get behind it.
And then things will inevitably go wrong because of his lack of experience and we will have just wasted more time. Gray, Wigley and Selles were given the job FT after ok starts.
I'd rather base my judgement of a manager on the games he has been in charge rather than 3 other blokes which failed in the past. Say we keep this good form up and start playing well, why would he be any more of a risk than someone like Carrick who recently got sacked from a similar sized club?
It's not just 3 blokes though, hiring a manager from within the club has never worked out well, history is not on his side. Hiring him straight after another 32 year old with more experience than him is just an accident waiting to happen. Carrick has nearly 150 games under his belt with a win % of 46.7 he is patently less of a risk than a complete novice imo. Not only that he is a name in the game.
I feel strongly about this mainly because I remember the Rupert Lowe appointments of Gray and Wigley when we were doing ok in the PL. Everyone knew that they were cheap yes men options and were doomed to fail.
In Tonda's defence (which is not an endorsement for him having the job) he was put in place to hold the fort whilst they make a decision. If after 5 games (as I think he'll be there for first week back after the break at the least) he's pulled in 12-15 points you can't argue that he not doing something right as he'll have got something out of the current squad that WS just didn't and that in itself shouldn't be discarded without reason. All managers have to start somewhere, and whilst I don't want it to be another experiment, it's not impossible to think that despite the lack of experience he might actually be pretty good and and then again this might just be the players joy on seeing the back of WS and playing the bottom of the table. Either way I think it's only fair to judge on his own achievements with this club instead of comparing him to someone from years back.
It's too much of a risk to make him permanent after 5 matches and we need an experienced manager to move forward. I've nothing against the bloke but I feel that it will not end well for him. Selles was a SR appointment only a couple of years ago btw.
