My work , come to light my team are peripatetic workers and our working day should start when we leave home and finish when we get home , but we’ve always had to travel to do a days work then travel home , sometimes a 90 min journey each way -, but there’s always been flexibility in time on site to compensate , since we challenged the peripatetic situation after months of review , they have refused it and also taken away that flexibility on site , meaning 11 hour days but getting paid for 8 , went down like a lead balloon and people getting unions and acas involved , threatening solicitors . Was supposed to have meeting with HR today and they bottled it and pulled out due to unforeseen circumstances …****s
are you suggesting because you live miles away from where you work that the company should compensate you for it = maybe I've misunderstood the concept
No, it’s because we have no fixed place of work . We travel and work in a different place every day - never heard the term myself until a few months ago to be honest
True story My mate went for a job And they said at interview It’s a peripatetic role is that ok? His reply? no sorry I don’t wanna work with the handicapped!!
Last job I had before my illness was working round the Country and we stayed in hotels a week maybe two weeks at a time. The frigging hotel was never nearer than half hour drive away, once in Ireland the job was in Northern Ireland and our hotel in Southern Ireland, used to be a right pain in the arse.
We have a 2 hour rule for a hotel , that’s worst thing, usually around 45 mins- hour away so not too bad , but quite often have to go 90/100 mins away so can’t hotel , have to commute . For me if we are peripatetic that’s a bonus, means overtime or shorter days, I aren’t overly fussed … it’s the fact they have made it worse and said, you know how now if you do 3 hour trip - just stay on site 7 hours , well now , do the 3 hour trip plus 8 hours on site!! …. Almost like a punishment for making a genuine query about if we are legally entitled to something … feel like my teams head is on a stick as warning to others .
I've never heard of it either. I can understand a company wanting 8 hrs work for 8 hrs pay but if the travel time to and from is out of your control then it should be compensated for somehow.
All our shifts were 12 hours, day or night so it used to piss us off having to travel far after a shift. All we wanted to do was get a shower, summat to eat and a few beers before bed. It used to be 8 'til 8 either morning or night. I was team leading a job on the night shift, we got back, had our breakfast and fancied a few before bed. One of the lads came to me and said they wouldn't open the bar, so I asked for the Manager and explained we'd been on nights so it was our early evening. He eventually saw it our way and the bar was open every morning for the rest of the time we was there. He even thanked me as we was signing out for the extra cash they'd earned in the bar.
