Out of interest, how many stitches did Butland need after Trusty forced him to vigorously blink?

It’s violent conduct. That’s the only thing that matters here

So you get sent off for touching somebody's head with your head, like a very soft headbutt and also get sent off if you touch somebody's face with you hand, like a wee play slap. Yet if you deliberately put your foot to somebody's face/head whilst on the ground it is only a yellow card and the reason it is only a yellow card is because the guy didn't need stitches? What a time tobe alive.

Violent conduct occurs when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent, teammate, match official, spectator, or any other person when not challenging for the ball.

No buddy, the stitches question was just out of interest.

Joe Hart was kicked in the head, violently, twice playing for Celtic and both on field decisions were Yellow Cards.

    Nice call

Cornelius should have seen red for endangering an opponent.

Doesn't apply to Trusty as once again FORCE is important in the decision.

Enter it into chatGPT. They say it’s a red card.

they reckon force doesn’t matter if it’s a deliberate kick to the face

If its a deliberate kick to the head, why did he turn his foot sideways?

He could have just toed Butland right on the nose.

    He turned his foot, why?

To catch the rebound and score, that's why.

Key distinction: "Excessive force" vs. "unacceptable act"

The IFAB and referee guidance explain that:

    • "Excessive force" doesn't only mean high physical power.
    • It means the act goes beyond what is acceptable in football — it's not a legitimate challenge and shows disregard for the opponent's safety.
So, if a player deliberately kicks someone in the head, even gently:

    • It's not a challenge for the ball.
    • It's a deliberate act against the opponent.
    • It endangers safety and is completely unacceptable in football.
Thus, the referee treats it as violent conduct, even if the contact was light.
