An interesting take because surely if you strengthen your first 11 do you not, by definition, also strengthen your squad? Why would the players that got us promoted suddenly be usurped by U21s?

We might be discussing a new coach before the next game

But 3 more matches and I reckon Leeds will be in the bottom 3 , we could do something now while international break is on , and a new manager would have a warm up match to come into his 1st match against aston villa before all he'll breaks loose man city , Chelsea, Liverpool, with farkes style we will just get picked off against good teams as farke won't let loose and have a go at teams , be proactive and anticipate teams instead of them anticipating us.

    I
I got to agree with you 100% they knew we needed a striker and did not deliver , farke knew and we got players upfront I could see by their records were not good enough and little to no experience of playing in premier league and also their scoring record was useless before coming to leeds , why buy players who cannot score ? If they had a decent goal scoring record before they came to leeds I would not mind as much , but to get players with a useless record of scoring and pay millions for them is wilful neglect of duty

Not if you don't play them and leave them on the bench.

Firstly we strengthened both the first 11 and the squad. We have 5 regular new starters. I was answering the question as to why bother strengthening the squad. It’s adding depth. So in your example buying only first team players adds quality but less depth.

You look at your whole squad. Analyse where we are light on quality AND light on depth and upgrade accordingly.

It’s risk management, they opted for having an ok side an d better bench v having a better starting 11 some weeks when everyone was fit.

    squad game innit

By way of example if you buy a new winger for 30m to push your 10m guy down the pecking order then yes your 10m guy (if he’s not sold) and now likely knocks a kid or journeyman off the bench. But at the price you need to pay, you can only do that 3/4 times. (Assuming you can get the 30m guys to come). So strengthening the first team only is more expensive and leaves you light on depth - ie quality replacements. They obviously felt we had 10+ players who couldn’t hack it at this level and had to go the volume route.

The real question is whether the guys we bought to replace those they didn’t think could hack it, can hack it themselves. Or whether they went too OTT on volume over quality.
