I take back wanting Sargent from Norwich.. But would love us to go in for Ivanovic from Millwall now. He would be fantastic and can't imagine he is out of our price range or pulling power.

Good. Should have sold him in the first place, or kept him here this season

Tbf I'm not sure anyone wanted to buy him for the price we wanted to sell. Having got a big loan fee that probably opens up more potential buyers at a cheaper price as we have recouped some of his price already. Not sure Newcastle will buy a second choice keeper for that price given they seem to have been struggling to keep within PSR and they likely have other areas they need to spend. Interesting that he is apparently happy to play second choice now.

I didn't have a problem with Ramsdale going out on loan with that loan fee, as in in theory if we were to get promoted he could come back into the fold and that would be one position we wouldn't have needed to spend on. However that was under the proviso that we brought in a new GK on loan as first choice for this season. I was adamant that we needed one throughout the summer despite many people saying McCarthy and Baz were good enough for this level. Well guess what, as if that wasn't obvious from last time, they're not and that will once again cost us points and put more pressure on the rest of the team.

Bringing in a new goalkeeper in January would be good, but I don't see it happening. If it didn't happen in the summer, then unless an unexpected opportunity was to present itself, I don't see January being any different.

The issue with recruiting any player in January (excluding U21 players) is that we've now reached our 25 man maximum. So any incomings would need to be offset by outgoings. If there is a clause to terminate Long's loan, then that actually would be an easy way to make space for a new goalkeeper, but I don't know if that exists or not. And it doesn't help us with recruiting outfield players, assuming we want three senior goalkeepers. We need greater success with finding new homes for Aribo and Edozie, otherwise it'll be a big problem. Matsuki would be the other player on the list who was barely featured in the league so far.

Ways around it. Downs loan. Downes sale. Edozie, Aribo somehow we get rid. Long termination as you say, and Matsuki. Sounds like we might need to find room for JWP as well, so...

Also U21 don't need registration, do they? (Not that we necessarily need more kids).

Downs is on the U21 list (he only turned 21 earlier this year). So whilst I agree that we should consider loaning him out, it wouldn't help us create room within our registered squad.

Personally I would against selling Downes.

This depends on two things for me: how much Romeu is able to play and if the JWP coming back on loan rumours are true. I think Jander, Charles, Romeu and JWP (plus the likes of Sesay and Williams in an emergency) would be sufficient.

Who is going to want Downes anyway? Only way I can see him moving on is if we are practically giving him away

If JWP did come back on loan, and if it came with an option/obligation to buy, then I would agree. But at this stage I think it's more a case of putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. I would love getting JWP back in January, but I don't believe it will happen.
