Sao Paulo v Flamengo this evening attracted a paltry 11,000 spectators.

Elfs, are attendances always so poor in Brazil? I always thought of Brazilian teams playing to vast crowds in colossal arenas.

For reasons unknown Sao Paulo played the game at Santos' ground. Santos is around 3 hours from Sao Paulo. The capacity of Santos is around 16k.

Sao Paulo have a fantastic bowl of a ground and can take around 65k, attendances are not normally announced over here but at a guess they would comfortably pull in 40k for a game. For the derbies and Flamengo they'd be near capacity.

The majority of games in Serie A will see gates of 30k plus, Vasco da Gama have a similar capacity to Santos but they play the Rio derbies in the Maracana then the gates go upto 50k.

Out here you will pay between 10-£30 for games so you do not get fleeced, this is as a non member, as a member the tickets are even cheaper.

And so we enter what Douglas Adams called "the long, dark teatime of the Soul".
    Another International break.

A chance for some of our squad to represent their Countries any maybe get injured.
And another Lower Leagues Soccer Saturday on SSN.

    PS:

I like the way Sky Sports has started bigging up the 2pm Sunday kick-offs in the Prem.
Presumably they have lost the rights to show the bigger 4pm (or 4:30) kick-off matches,
so they are reduced to promoting the lesser, earlier games instead <doh>

They haven’t lost the rights to show the 4-30 games. They showed Man City v Liverpool yesterday. This year Sky are showing a huge number of games. TNT and Amazon have got limited amount of games.

In fact the exact opposite of what you posted @lardiman

Sky Sports will broadcast a record minimum of 215 Premier League matches a season from 2025/26 after finalising a new four-year agreement for TV rights.

From the upcoming 2025/26 season, Sky Sports' exclusively live coverage will increase from 128 Premier League matches to at least 215 games.

As part of the new rights deal, Sky Sports will show more Premier League action than any other broadcaster with at least four matches per week.

Sky Sports' 215 matches will include more than 140 matches played at weekends, evening matches on Fridays and Mondays and full coverage of three midweek match rounds.

For the first time, Sky Sports will also broadcast all 10 Premier League matches on the final day of each season.

Personally I think this saturation coverage is ruining the game.

I wonder why they have started pushing the 2pm Sunday games then.
Perhaps too few people are watching them.
But why should Sky care about that? They have the subscription money...

I think I’m right in saying they have tampered with the much cherished tradition of football on Boxing Day, and there is now only one PL game on this day this year.

That’s right. I believe that Boxing Day is one of my favourite days to watch football after the excesses of Christmas Day. Why do they have to interfere.
