Slater - put his foot in win more headers than several taller players and drove forward Destan - McBurnie goal and great lay offs and headers Coyle solid all game
It's so hard to pick because you have players like Gelhardt who was quiet on the whole but won us the game with a really elite bit of finishing, people like Destan who was really useful tactically, Amir who did a specific job very well but made a bad mistake to let them back in, and then people like Slater, Crooks and Joseph who were consistent throughout the 90 but didn't have the standout moments. And then Hughes who was exceptional in his attacking contribution and some good defensive moments too, but also had a couple of bad moments defensively if I'm being picky. It's impossible to compare all these conflicting things but I'll have a go: Hughes Gelhardt Slater Coyle also unlucky to miss out with his contributions to the first two goals.
Hughes - our main attacking outlet sometimes. Gelhardt Slater Honourable mentions for Coyle and Joseph. Really don’t see the criticism for Coyle sometimes, adds plenty of drive. Ok he gets done from time to time, but he was solid today. Joseph was brilliant last 20 minutes.
Really tough to pick out 3 today. Everyone contributed and it was great to get back to winning ways. Going for the 3 goal scorers. Gelhardt Joseph Destan Anyone could have been included. Great team performance.
Hughes Giles Joseph last player with those energy levels was Andy Robertson . All played really well today .I took an old mate who’s over from New York for His first game in 18 years just glad it was a good one .
Tough one... 1. Geldhardt 2. Hughes 3. Giles Honourables for Crooks, Slater, Coyle, Egan, Destan, Joseph, Alphabet ....and the rest of the lads...Alphabet would have been in my top 3, if he'd not lost the ball for their second...
Hughes Slater Joseph. ... Good battling team performance and the first and third goals were things of beauty. Pompey were game, lucky first goal for them, the deflection could have gone anywhere and the second was totally avoidable by us, first by giving the ball away after we'd just won it back and I thought Pandur could have cut out the cross. But they made for an open game and the ref on the main let the game flow after one or two questionable stoppages. Splendid win never the less and probably the type of game we would have lost last season. All bodes well for a stronger squad the other side of the International break. UTT.
Nothing to see here, move on. I did see Coyle put his body on the line in a couple of challenges he had no right to be anywhere near, including the run down the line and the challenge that led to the corner from which we scored our second goal. Never saw the ball boy incident, neither did anyone else near me, W12. No-one talking about it leaving the ground either, just the one comment on here??
