I hope that SR read social media forums, only 16% want O'Neil and more than two thirds don't and we're a pretty moderate bunch here.

Listening to the fans is often the worst thing to do TBH.

My vote would be for Carrick. He surely would have the respect of the players, and i thought did a good job at Boro.

They have the fans forum - surely a fair and balanced reflection of the wider fanbase and therefore an unbiased collective viewpoint..............

Yeah, but he's got no chance if only 16% want him here, the first dodgy performance and he'll be under the pump straight away, it'll be worse than Jones.

We need someone that will unify the club and fans.

Plus SR are already unpopular, why risk it all on a clearly unpopular appointment?

I don’t mind. I literally don’t care about Pompey other than for a bit of banter with my colleagues. I enjoy watching them lose, but won’t lose sleep over them.

So if O’Neill comes, then he’ll have my support until the 3rd game and I turn against him

To be fair they should give it a go as their decisions have, in the main, been pretty disastrous :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Spent a decent chunk of his career in London, so being outside of the Norf shouldnt be too much of a problem (granted its a long time ago and circumstances change).

Yeah I know he started at West Ham then played for Spurs but that must be 20 years ago? He’s Geordie so maybe just settled and doesn’t want to move

Obviously just speculation on my part but wouldn’t surprise me if he’s not interested in the job because of that.

Yeah, we don't tend to hear too often about those that say no (unfortunately) because the owners of clubs are far too busy pretending the person they got was always their first choice...

Couple of posts from a SW poster who from a quick glance does seem to have got stuff right in the past.

"GON was at Staplewood today interviewing (and a few others have been in recent days). He is extremely keen on the job and impressed the club with a very thorough presentation, but the board (Solak especially) are concerned about backlash and division for supporters after today’s leaked story so quite possible it won’t go any further."

And when asked if know of any other candidates:

"I’ll only ever share here what I know with certainty which is that Spors interviewed at least four different candidates this week, including GON. No other names have reached me but it is clearly far from a foregone conclusion at this stage. Obviously Eckert is also highly thought of but the club are keen to avoid a repeat of Selles. He and Spors are ‘extremely close’ though."

I do wonder if the club were responsible for the O'Neil info being out and wanted to test the waters of how fans reacted both online and tomorrow.

Yeah that's definitely the other option, put someone out there who'll cause a bit of backlash and those people will be less unhappy when they appoint Eckhert or similar.

Yep when my daughter was young I used to do similar. Accuse her of doing something really bad and she always owned up to the lesser offence.

If the club like GON as suggested, does making the decision based on the fans ‘backlash’ make them stupid or sensible?

Obviously it’s hard to ignore the many previous poor decisions made by the club, but I can’t help but feel that they should appoint whoever they see as the strongest candidate regardless of what the fans think. And that’s not suggesting GON is that strongest candidate, but if he is then they should appoint him.
