Not information from me, sadly. I’d have been up a tree with the long lens, don’t you worry. Seems pretty clear he has been interviewed though.

In a week when they have been preaching about “togetherness” it seems an incredibly naive move to appoint someone who would divide the fan base so much

The only logic to it is that they either have no clue about the Portsmouth connection in O’Neils past or he is head and shoulders the best candidate we can get. Both those scenarios are worrying in different ways

He has never managed in the championship. Yep did a decent job taking over from Parker at b’muff and again at wolves, but he was a broken man at the end of his time at wolves if I can remember from his post match interviews.
Just has the feeling of when Jones was appointed, where a majority of the fan base are against the move, and we all, remember how long Jones was given until things turned toxic.
I’m sure he’s not as decisive a character as Jones, but that will get trumped by his Pompey connections and his love for them.

Would he be a good candidate if he had no Portsmouth candidate.

Where we are at the moment, I would say yes, but with what the fans have had to see and put up with for the last 16 months or so, he wouldn’t get much of a break,(due to his big Pompey connection), and SR really need to get the fans behind the next appointment and get some unity going again.
Problem is, this isn’t just some bloke who played a few times for Pompey, this is a bit of a club legend, who in the past has firmly nailed his love for the lot down the road, to his mast.
And unfortunately a large group football fans never forget these things. Just not sure it’s the right appointment and direction at this current time and situation. The club has been toxic enough now for a fair while.

Tough, as he may well be very capable for us. Would be an awkward one for sure.

I'm quite surprised that he would take the job given what he has said about being a fan of PFC, I can't see much of an upside for him taking the job personally.

Thanks for giving more background, probably not the ideal appointment then! Let’s hope Spors has a decent list of interviewees.

Apparently Farke might not last much longer at Leeds. I don’t know why he’d be getting the boot, but there is a few in that category of “let’s hold on for a couple of weeks” - it would be incredibly annoying if we appointed O’Neil, and then Farke and Corberan became available (and were picked up by Leicester and Ipswich).

I’ve attached a Poll to vote on Gary O’Neill to see what feeling is on the forum. Would be a good barometer I guess of how it would be seen generally.

Next game before the international window is away to Forest. Big, big game at the bottom. Lose it and I could easily see them pull the trigger.

Valencia's form is really bad as well, 1 point from 5 games after starting with 8 from the first 6 games

Worth sounding out, but I’d imagine he wouldn’t want to be jumping straight back into another job as quickly as we’d want a manager. Usually managers take a couple of months off at least after a sacking

At the risk of furthering circular debate is the main reason for the general dislike of O'Neill purely on the fact he played for a decent length of time for Portsmouth and expressed that he enjoyed his time there?

I'm not a fan who actually understands the level of hatred between the two teams especially as we've hardly played them in the last few years. I can understand banter against rivals but actual hatred I don't get.

If he gets the job I'll judge him on what he does - not what he did in the past in a prior career stage. Not sure if he's my choice for the role in any case but not because of his playing career.

I read this about his style, "He prioritizes a counter-attacking style that uses quick transitions and width". Very much like Still's style then apart from the quick transitions.

This is the second time that we're looking for a new manager at a time when Farke's future at Leeds is uncertain.

If he was to become available prior to us making an appointment, he would become my no.1 candidate by a huge distance. But there's no guarantee that he will be available, or that he would choose to join us if he was.

Leeds do have a tough run of games ahead though.
