If he was a ridiculous coup, maybe you could get past being a skate fan. But he’s not done anything to be a huge stand out candidate. There are equally good options that don’t come with that baggage/risk
Yeah, although I personally think the whole Skate thing is a bit daft, there are many who don't and it does seem unnecessary for someone who is 'okay'. The trouble is, so many of the fans are saying "someone who has managed in the UK" too, and that leaves our pool really quite shallow (and we don't know if, say, Carrick has said no). I'd rather go for a German high end person, if we could get one, but if it's O'Neil we are just going to have to get behind him and hope for the best. A good run of games and a win against the Skates, and I suspect we'd start forgetting all that concern quite quickly. Does seem a bit daft though.
I think he's a decent manager. I'm not really that bothered about him being a skate myself (wouldn't be at all if we weren't going to Fratton in 2 months). I'm bothered by the fact many will be which will make his job much harder and imo make it less likely he'll succeed. Given the ****show of the last 16 months we need a manager fans can get behind and that ain't him.
I am bothered, personally. I feel like the club kicks and embarrasses the fans over and over. The 9-0’s , lowest points total, selling all our players, etc. etc. Don’t put a ****ing skate fan in charge on top of everything else
I think beating them lot is what it'd take to win everyone over tbh. I genuinely think he could win 8 in a row but if he then followed that up with 2 defeats including one to them many would turn and he'll never get them back.
Don’t feel it’s the right time to announce a confessed skate fan, when we’ve been given a complete **** show of a 16 months. Fan division from the off, is not what is needed at the present time.
Yeah I do get that, though I don't really agree I can understand the feeling of it being another stick beating us down. Like I say I don't think I would be at all if we were in different divisions but the thought of going to Fratton with a pompey fan terrifies me The other thing is if he did well then it wouldn't matter to me in the slightest that he supports them. If he did poorly it would make it doubly depressing compared to anyone else lol.
I think I'm still quite scarred by the Fratton game under Harry tbh. Probably my worst day as a football fan and I wasn't even there! I'd really prefer to not relive that in the flesh especially taking into account the hours it'll take to get there and back being forced on the prison buses.
It seems, punters put money went on him after Charlie Austin’s comments on sky that we should go for him if he’s prepared to drop to the championship.
If I were him, I'd rather take the bigger pay off of getting sacked from Wolves in 3 months over the smaller pay off of getting sacked from Saints in 3 months. Not sure why he'd turn down one ****show in the PL for a different ****show in a lower league. Plus he has connections with Wolves, and the only 'connection' with us is that he supports our rivals. Guess he'd be able to watch his beloved Pompey more often if he was our manager... As has been said, particularly with all the divisions throughout the club at the moment, hiring a Pompey fan especially when we have to go to Fratton still is just really, really so obviously not the move here. The pressure to turn this around is already huge, and any new manager is only going to get 10 or so games with most fans to see some progress in results and performances anyway. The rope being so short is on SR and the constant **** ups. A lot of fans won't take a skate in charge from the off, and lots of other will have him on the edge of the plank ready to turn on him after every game that doesn't go our way. Why put ourselves under that unnecessary extra scrutiny, the job to turn this around is already big enough.
Five seems a bit excessive How did you hear about this? Might be why the odds have gone down if Saints fans have heard that he’s in the area.
