If behind the scenes with the communication between Spors and the players they say they want Tonda then he’ll get the job I think. If they say they don’t want him they’ll look elsewhere
Probably right, but I’m sure they have some influence on it. Our issue, in my opinion, isn’t the talent of the players, it’s the mentality of them. So if you are Spors trying to turn round the season and still hoping for promotion if the players are saying they love Tonda and want to play for him, something they clearly weren’t doing for Still, do you roll the dice and appoint someone else?
If Spors can appoint the right manager then the players should fall into line. Getting the right manager seems to be the difficult bit. I feel uneasy having another young manager, we need someone that has experience or standing, someone the players can look up to.
I’m sure the players don’t all think the same way about anything, including the manager. There was probably a core of Russbuddies who are still sore that he got sacked, and others who were sad to see Still get the boot. Whoever gets the job will have the same problem, getting the more vocal elements on board and performing a major teambuilding exercise on the whole squad. He will have to get them to realise that the shambolic performances of the last 18 months are completely unacceptable and that they have to work together or they will be moved on at the first opportunity.
Gary O'Neil in a hotel in Beaulieu tonight with five Saints staff members. May just be an interview, but he's looking rather likely...
O'Neil would be a solid choice. He's done good jobs at Bournemouth and Wolves. Has plenty of experience in England. Ticks the boxes for me. I'd much rather this than take another punt on someone who's never managed in England before.
I don't think it will be GON, but if it does transpire to be him then I would have no issue with his Pompey past.
He has done good jobs. But he's an ex-skate. A poor start and the fans will turn instantly. We don't need that.
My only issue with ONeill is his good jobs have been with underdog teams, getting them to punch above their weight. That’s not what we need (Same applied to Will Still)
They'll turn on him much quicker than anyone else though. He'll get one game's grace at best. It'll be like Jones but even worse.
