We just can’t afford to lose another defender. Bell and Burke have a record of being injured. That is why I was surprised to see the Mitchell Brothers both out on loan. Zach is not getting any game time at all.
I would ease up on the training for the defenders. I know Jones training is very high tempo but at this stage of the Season it can be dialled down.
Our team was a real curate's egg last night. Terrific performances from Jones and Coventry but Doc played like an old man, Campbell had his worst game under NJ, and Bree was off colour, particularly his corners. Leaburn was struggling, but it wasn't until Doc went off that the midfield functioned. Fullah what a player, and I have faith that our owners won't bite the hand off the first offer to come in for him. He’s in the squad for keeps now, even when we are back to full strength, and it's a matter of time before he starts games. And Carey. What else can you say?
I thought Campbell was really poor, weak, couldn’t hold on to the ball, didn’t run at the opponent’s looks completely devoid of confidence. I thought Docherty was laboured. I would put Carey on penalties he has a powerful shot and confidence, I knew Doc would miss the penalty. His body language was all wrong.
Jones was absolutely fuming with Docherty for that penalty. Even amidst the euphoria at full time he was berating him. He said afterwards the issue was not that GD took it, but the way he took it that infuriated him. “Better to blast it over the bar than take it like that for God’s sake”
Several times TC got the ball out on the left, took it with his right foot, and drifted inside or passed backwards to lose it. This is not what a No.7 should be doing. I still believe his fundamental problem is his lack of a football brain.
I thought Hernandez had a solid, controlled game. He will certainly have his uses as the season progresses. Other than the winner, Fullah was the highlight of the evening. His pirouette and burst of pace straight after coming on was a joy. It's time to ditch Leaburn. He is no King Carlo.
Fullah has got “it” …. Campbell & Leaburn haven’t, I think the latter two will only have solid careers in the lower leagues. Fullah - the sky is the limit at the moment. You could see with his goal at Cambridge that he has that X Factor which can’t be coached.
