Match Day Thread Newcastle v Athletic Bilbao

On Wednesday 5th November 2025, Newcastle United will host Atheltic Bilbao at St James Park for a UEFA Champions League fixture.

Before the match, which kicks off at 8pm, there will be some road closures to help the safe movement of fans walking to the stadium.

The stadium walk up by Athletic Bilbao fans will see the muster point in Newcastle’s Bigg Market at approximately 17:45 before walking via Newgate Street, Percy Street, Leazes Park Road and Leazes Terrace to arrive at St James’ Park for 18:30.

Newcastle city centre in general, is likely to be very busy on Wednesday evening so advice is plan ahead and leave plenty of time for your journey.

When we played them in the 90s it was Bilbao, I'm sure this The Athletic Club is something recent.

Reminds me of The Unified Team in the 92 winter Olympics

 

It always was Athletic but they were forced to change it to Athletic Bilbao in 1940s but were then allowed to change back in 1970s

 

So it’s another Newcastle bottle job opportunity.

If we win could go as high as third in the CL table. I guarantee we lose.

Yeah but when we played them in 1994 or whatever everyone was just calling them Bilbao, I heard no mention of The Athletic Club anywhere. It might be something old, but it seems to have been more enforced recently.

 

How about trying to win a game away from home before deciding which songs play in what order you set of ****ing bellends.

 

Without checking, I'm sure this change is pretty recent in relative terms.
