It seems to be about the right time to start a thread for this, and this is so poignant Lest we forget Why are they selling poppies, Daddy? Selling poppies in town today "The poppies, child, are flowers of love For the men who marched away." Why have they chosen a poppy, Daddy Rather than a beautiful rose? "Because my child, men fought and died In the fields where poppies grow." Why are the poppies so red, Daddy? Why are the poppies so red? "Red is the colour of blood, my child The blood that our soldiers shed." The heart of the poppy is black, Daddy. Why does it have to be black? "Black, my child, is the symbol of grief. For the men who never came back." Why my Daddy are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain. "My tears are my fears for you my child. For the world is forgetting again."
Lovely mate. As a veteran myself it's always important that we take a minute and remember those who fought to give us the life we have today that so many of us take for granted. I 'wear' my poppy 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I use 'wear', because it's a tattoo on my arm that was an important piece of my sleeve that had to be included.
not a vet and don't think any family had any real 'history' in the services but i like to think i am proud of all those lads and lasses that fought for this land...the world should never be allowed to forget.
Young boys and men went to war and never came home fighting for something they believed in. Eternal love to them all. I hope on armistice day we can leave any political arguments to ones side, and by that I mean the nation and remember these brave men and what they sacrificed. I'm not religious, but God bless them all. xxx
As a veteran of 26 years' service in the British Army, I love what the club do to honour past, present and future Armed Forces, I was lucky enough to be invited to do the pitch walk last year at the Coventry game, was such an honour to be able to do that and I was filled with pride, great respect to all that contribute towards it too, I will miss this year as I'm travelling to the other side of thew world, but hopefully get to see the game on the flight.
